What is the most evident change in the valve body or accumulator that causes the 1-2 shift bang shift at low torque? The ART CARR shift kit does this but I am not exactly sure by what means. Is it the blocked off accumulator, the stiffer springs or what? I like this but what to lessen it just slightly. This is on 2004R for my GN.
Thanks

paul

The original Art Carr shift kits completely blocked the 1-2 accumulator.

The Art Carr kits I have seen put a restrictor in the accumulator feed hole in the accumulator housing. They also open up the 1-2 feed hole in the spacer plate to something like .125 which is pretty large. They also put a pretty heavy pressure regulator spring in the pump. A combination of all will give you a pretty harsh 1-2 shift.

Mikestwo, you are exactly correct. So what if I put like a .030" orifice in the accumulator port instead of completely blocking it? Will that soften it just a wee bit?
I have all the other things you mentioned done. Thanks

Opening up the restrictor should help. You should start small and work your way up until you get the feel you desire. I know it is a pain to keep pulling the pan to make the adjustment but sometimes that is what you have to do to get it right.

Yes it does, it is a pretty stiff spring if I remember correctly.

Just food for thought. When I had my transmission rebuiltl it was very harsh on the 1-2 shift. I adjusted the TV cable one click. (can't remember which way) that softened up the shift a little bit. It was perfect after that.
