I was recently given this EGT kit, but I was wondering how useful it would be on my street cars. I haven't done a lot or research into using it, but I figured there's got to be someone on this board who uses one. As the thread title says, what does it do and how do I use it?

Archeat: Complete EGT Kit

That's a nice kit. Measures exhaust temp. Tells your fuel air mixture. Way to tell if your running lean or rich. Maybe I'm incorrect on this...Anyone else please chime.

EGT= Exhaust Gas Tempurature. IF you know what your target EGT is supposed to be, you can adjust the Air fuel ratio to obtain that goal. A wide band O2 sensor is a MUCH better way to monitor your engine tune-up. If you step up to an aftermarket ECM or a MaftPro, you can use the wide band O2 to automatically adjust the engine tune at ANY throttle postion. Use a wide band O2 NOT the EGT. I have both on my car, but only look at the W/B O2.

Egt

Well if your not going to use you can give it to me I'll use it for sure!;)

So the EGT should be used as more of a diagnostic tool, and a wideband O2 sensor is a better tuning tool. I was thinking it would be useful on my '71 Pontiac to tune the A/F mixture, since it has no provisions for an O2 sensor. It would probably also be useful on the GN until I get a wideband and all the associated hardware. Guess I'll just start playing with it and see what it can do.
