My pop's GN launched REAL hard (1.50), then left about 50' of black on the track when it lost traction, then hooked again in the VHT and the tranny went bye bye. He has NO forward or reverse gears, and the tranny is making no unusual noises. The car doesn't even try to move....what does this sound like to you all???

My broken into 4 pieces pump rotor acted like that. I was almost at the end of the traps when it felt like it went into neutral.

No powa??

Sounds to me like the input snapped off. Loading and then unloading then loading again at WFO will/can do that to stock parts. Time to call for some good parts...
I guess you could say "pops popped"!:D

I'm with Chuck on this one.

Probably the input or forward clutch shaft.

An easy way to see whether or not you got the pump would be to check the fluid level with the car running and with the engine off. If the level doesn't change when cranking up the engine then the fluid's not pumping.

One other possibility is that the turbine spline may have stripped or broken out inside the torque converter. Not as common but possible all the same. Regardless, it's time to start wrenching.

I will third that one. Sounds like an input shaft or drum. May be a pump but less likely with what you have discribed. Easily checked by checking line pressure. If you have pressure it's not the pump. Mark

That happened to my buddy's GN and it was the rear diff...It basically exploded inside...easy way to tell is when it's in neutral get under the car and try to spin the drive shaft, if it turns freely it's the rear diff.
