4-6 tents if you don't change anything else,It depends on if the exhaust is a .63 A/R or the .85 A/R you could see as much as a full second on the .85.This is only what Ive read about so I could be alittle off.I am sure there is some one who has done this to give you some real numbers.Good luck

Let me clarify something, the TE45A had a .63 this 70GTQ has an .85 on it.

I have ported stock heads and want to run around 28-30#'s with it. What kinda ET's should I expect?? I normally do mid 1.45's on my 60ft with the TE45A.

I was able to go just as fast with a 70 with 4-5 lbs less boost than a TE45a. I went 127 on 27 psi with the TE45. Only took 22 or so with the 70.

Matt, at that boost and the power it SHOULD make your tranny is gonna be begging for mercy. Better start saving for a 400:D Your probably gonna need it

I WENT FROM A 45A TO A GT70 BUT KEPT THE P TRIM TURBINE.I AGREE WITH LOUIE I PICKED UP ABOUT 4 MPH..WENT TROM A BEST OF 10.50 TO A 10.35 BEST SO FAR.THAT WAS CHANGING THE PLUMBING AND IC ALSO

Yeah I am sure I will go through this 200 pretty quick, it might only last a few passes....O well; thats ok. Which year t-400 should I be looking for? :)

GTQ will not come in anything less than the .85. Which means your low end might not be as good with this turbo unless you open up your converter some more.

Louie, how much rpm difference was there to get to full boost?
What psi did you lauch at with both turbos and their best 60ft?

I am going to try it out with this 3500 stall thats on it now. I dont get to race my car at the track much, but when I do get to go I want it to be there. I think that there is a chance that if I lean up with the translator a little bit on the bottom it will be ok. I also have some stout brakes on the car so maybe it wont be too bad. I like my converters tight anyway. I might have to change over to 83's from what I am hearing. I might not run 28#-30#'s, I want to get all I can out of what is already here. Chime in guys...

Louie,

How bad did it affect the driveability on the street? If I rember correctly you started out with a 3500 stall and said it rode nice on the road but wasnt enough stall at the track? correct me if I am wrong. I am just trying to draw a mental picture of what this is going to be like, I am just waiting on an actuator and a diagram from Dusty on hooking up two pumps and Ill be set.

Thanks. :)

i was just wondering, what is a good psi to run the gtq70? where it really starts to make its most efficient power?

You are absolutely correct. I based that on experience ive had with both stalls in converters. The tighter converter (3500-3600) will get it spooled fine on the street but in my case it took a lot of work at the track. I had to prestage way hot on the gas and foot brake and start building boost, then letting the car slide in and hopefully i had 3-5 PSI built when i hit the stage light. This is way to hard in my opinion to if you were seriously racing like I was. This isnt the fault of the converter , but mine for changing turbos!
This same converter and a TE45a was an awesome combo for me. I could build 10-13 psi on the foot brake.

I then went to a looser ATI and i just dont have to beat on it as hard to get it to spool . I can cut great lights with it and 60 foots very well. It spools very fast for a 70 Q. Im very happy with it. I cannot tell you what stall it is because ATI doesnt really give you a stall number. But from my experience with it so far, it is a 4k stall converter very easy.:D

I cant really say because i did a lot of suspension swapping in between turbos. But I have the boost controller usually set at 13 psi and if the track is good and i let go of the TB at the right time i can do low 1.4 to high 1.3s.

I've got a .63 housing on my 70GTQ... I'm going to try a .85 housing next year.

Mine spools fine at the track with a 3800 stall, I tried a 3500 and had the same kind problems as Louie, it worked but I had problems pushing though the lights.

All i can tell you on stock iron heads you will pick up nothing from the gtq over a p trim! on a straight comparison with a 70 turbo p trim

PTE had said .85 due to the size of the exhaust wheel.

Probably my misunderstanding then, but a .63 does seem small and really tight for that sized wheel.
