what will it take to get this tach to work?

No need for a translator or anything. Any tach that is switchable 4-6-8 will work on these cars. Just set it to 6 cylinder, and for a signal wire use the green wire... Forget where it is at.... I am converting from 85 hot air to 87 IC'ed. Someone else will chime in for what wire to use, but yes the tach will work.

The Translator has nothing to do with the tach. If it is switchable to use on a V6, it will work. The tach signal wire is behind the alternator, it's a white wire with a green plastic connector, spade type. I just hooked my tach up and it took all of 5 minutes, super easy.

I don't think he means "the" Translator (as in MAFT), just "a" translator.

But, this green connector, is it supposed to be plugged into anything? Mine has just been sitting there without a connection since I bought it.

You are correct. Most of the time this is just sitting there, awaiting the install of a tach.

Ahh, a different play on words. ;)

You might need it. Try it without the unit. If you get gross inaccuracies or no operation, you will need the unit.
