I am just curious, what would it take to turbo charge a 5.3 Chevy Truck?

Shane, a friend of mine put a t76 on a LQ4 6.0, then put it in a Regal. There are a few companies making the manifolds, kits. He's only going to run 8-10 lbs. of boost due to compression, but, plans on 600 RWHP. Sure it wouldn't be to hard!! BTW, I'll be at the TB nats. I'm going to look for ya!! Phil.

Here is the truck my cuz built. Talk to him he made over 700 wheel on a 4.8.

Can you post a picture of the whole truck, that is a cool build!

Cool! I will be looking forward to it:biggrin:

I got a 99 Chevy 2wd that I have had since 03. I love the truck. I had a tune and a couple of other tiny mods done. It runs great, feels faster than it is;)

I just thought it would be cool for some actual boost:cool:

I'd look into putting some ls1 or lq9 heads on it to drop the compression a little. I don't know if there would be any valve clearance issues. And the headers from a ls1 camaro front mount might work. A friend of mine bought the ebay camaro kit and we were discussing trying one on a truck. They would probably fit a 2wd but not sure about a 4wd. It mounts the turbo down low on the driver side.

Might be sacrilege to say around here but the procharger kits are great too. Very simple and efficient. I had a Procharger on my C5 Corvette before building a turbo kit for it. It was an absolute blast to drive with the blower. No exhaust issues to deal with, heat, etc.

Either way is a great way to go. I think the blower is easier and if the goal is to pick up 100hp, that's the way I would go.

its a truck and a 5.3 and a turbo .i'm positive your guys at bwr can do anything those guys in the video did and probably even better!

also some guys take the lower cost approach and take the truck manifolds cut the flanges off and weld on v bands and either swap them from side to side or flip them over(cant remember) run a crossover in the front instead of the way the guys in the video did it.

My friend did a rear mount on his silverado 4.3,easily done, cheap and lots of room..I'm doing one on my 2003 express van with a 4.3...I think he has $500 in his, including the tune..

Shane, call PCM. Eric works there now and that kid has got some talent in the fabrication field.

Always like the prochargers myself just didnt like the prices

Check out KB racing,a sponsor on Performance Trucks.net he has a tax time special right now $2500 for a complete turbo kit non intercooled 7 to 10 psi. that is all you need in a stock 5.3 silverado to have some fun
