Hey everybody, I got questioned about my screen name in another post. A member asked me if I had a Corsair. That got me to thinking that it would be a neat idea to find out, "What's in a name?". I know that some of them are pretty obvious but some do have a story behind them. So why did you choose your screen name? Here's my reply from the other post.

Sadly, no I don't. I have always loved warbirds of any kind and a Corsair was one of my favorites. I also used to read everything I could about Pappy Boyington and the Black Sheep too. Everything from his time in China with the Flying Tigers in their P-40s till his VMF-214 days. That's not the reason I chose Corsair as a screen name but when I thought about it, it did fit the Buick too (the turbo whistle) so I've sort of officially adopted it. A Corsair was also a pirate from the French Barbary Coast and I have a skull and crossbones on my front plate (yes, I like Pirates too. Edward Teach was my favorite) so again the name fits. But that's not the reason either. The real reason I chose Corsair is that I'm a huge X-Men fan. Corsair (Cyclop's father) was a favorite character of mine and I was signing up for E-Bay looking to purchase some X-Men figures so I picked it and it stuck.

If I ever win the powerball a Corsair is on my gotta have list though.

Well after riding in my buds T-type I needed BOOST!!! lol. I found my T not long after and the name just stuck even though now I have BOOST!!!!!! Daniel Ray

Saywin

I was looking to personalize my license plate and Texas only allows six letters. I started thinking about all the possible letters and words and my brother suggested say when a quote from Doc Holliday in the movie Tombstone. Well say when was to long so I shortened it to saywin so if would fit. I also like the win part being it is a GN. Well it still isn't on my plate, but it's on this site and another that I frequently visit. This is a cool thread.

screen names

My screen name started because of my love for the Yamaha Vmax. I have been a motorcycle tech since 92 and have owned over 12 Vmaxes in various states of modification. From a stock bike to a punched out, nitrous fed 182rwhp monster. I sold all my motorcycles, parts and lift when my son Niko was born a few years ago. Now he is over 3 years old and loves to go in "Daddy's fast car" It was getting really dangerous on the roads in CT with no one paying attention to driving anymore and I lost a friend a few years ago in a bike accident and I never really got over that. At least I can share this hobby with my son and wife and feel somewhat safe. I was going to change my screen name to GOT JCE since that is the license plate on my GN. Got Juice is the name on my business cards. I sell nitrous to the fast and the furious crowd all over CT. When every one ask me if my GN has juice, I tell them I run methanol instead of nitrous. But it's still Juice.:D

because I do have a 57

had it for over 25yrs, ( 57 chevy) blown 383, 700r4, ps,pb, pw,a/c tilt, and cruise control,
its a nice smooth cruzn ride.

I was a helo crew chief in the Air Force for 12 years. If you go back to the Vietnam war era when the AF first used H-3 helos for combat search and rescue...the helos were nicknamed the Jolly Green Giant. I think it came from a downed pilot who described his rescue as if the Jolly Green Giant came in and picked him up, or something to that effect. And the name stuck since. Rescue pilots today still use "Jolly" as part of their call sign.

The last helo I crewed back in 2004 was an H-60, tail number 460. You can pretty much figure out the rest from there.

I have a Darkred 87 T. Sorry, not much behind the name. I did however sign up on a whim when I first got my car. It was pretty much a heap to start with. I had a million questions and needed some quick advise about getting it running so I came up with a user name in a hurry and joined.

When you have the last name Fisher everybody calls you Fish. Well since a long forgotten relative named Jim Fisher owns Nitrofish I couldn't infringe on that. Hey I have a turbo Buick. Voila! TurboFish. When I run a car on the race track and it requires a number on the door I always use the engine size. My Cosworth Vega with the 2.0 litre is number 20. My old NA Regal autocrosser with the 4.1 was #41. My ElCamino was #50.The 455 Regal is #75. Yep the GN is #38. And there is the legend of turbofish38.

I too am going to buy a warbird if I win the lottery. I dont know which one. I like reading all of the neat stories on the internet of how some of the collectors and musuems came to own theirs. I was just reading a story of how this Australian dug the bits and pieces for 6 or 7 Mitsu Zeros out of the Borneo jungles and pieced one together. My favorite was the squadron of old Spitfires discarded by the Isreal Air Force left abandoned out in the desert. All bought for scrap. I bet if you won the Powerball, Russia would sell you a MIG29 with no questions asked.

"Charmer" was already taken soooo :p  Email address's are wierd to ....ttastage2...blue_t6... sleeper_6.... turboman...

Northop P-61 "black Widow", imho, the most beautiful of all of the warbirds, large or small.

Back in the military we always through the word nasty on the back of random words as a joke/made up humor type thing...
Look at the Boob nastys on that chick, etc

Turbonasty for the gn...hence the user name

P 40 B

I have a P 40 B in my office signed by General Tex Hill an original Flying Tiger. It was one of 50 that he signed for the maker. I jusf felt like sharing!

I used to shoot IPSC at the world level. For the uninitiated, that is combat pistol competition in a sport environment. More fun than you can imagine. Anyway, my last name is West and combined with my shooting style, I just got the nickname from fellow competitors over the years. I also had the bracket car in the pics that I ran with that name.

Chavo was already taken

Actually where I work the Cardiologists that I assist/work with have called me Dr. Chavo and other things mixed with profanity for well over a decade . Had the pleasure of taking care of a member of the 332nd Squadron i.e Tuskegee Airman an all African American fighter squadron. they were actually called Redtails because of their squad's insignia on their P51C Mustangs, as their reputation spread and grew they were called "Angels" by the white Bomber Squadrons they protected thus the RedTail Angels. They never lost a B17-Flying Fortress under their protection a statistically boggling feat. Even though the Germans would try and divert fighter escorts by sending out decoys that if they came off would leve the bombers unprotected. Mr. R.Lawrence said we STUCK to our Bombers, no matter how tempting a target. Anytime the Luffwaffe engaged us they got all we had to offer. The Tuskegee Airmen shot down 111 German aircraft 3 of which were the new Me-262 jet fighter the 1st ever fighter jet to be used in combat. Too often when not engagin Nazis in the air they were battling Racism on the ground.

All these warbirds mentioned brings to mind a fighter built by Grumann not the prettiest, didn't fly the highest or had the range of other fighters it did however have the Firepower and the ability to fly when shot up beyond what most would think fly worthy. A workhorse of a Fighter during the latter part of WW2 in both theatres the P48-ThunderBolt . Ironically a plane with the same name , made by the same company, that has the reputation of it's Grand-pappy none other then the A10-ThunderBolt aka WartHog not the fastest or prettiest but one tough Warbird that packs a wallop and keeps on tickin after tackin a lickin. Man would love to feel and hear , experience that turbocharged 50mm. cannon sppooool up

Boost231 not much i can stay about it. Boost and 231 Cubic Inches.

My original 84 GN purchased in Canada had been lowered 3 1/2" in front and 4" in rear with custom springs--front air dam barely cleared a coffee mug and license plate was LO DOWN. When I brought it to U.S. that plate was taken so I came up with O SO LO and it just stuck.

Good readin guys. Keep 'em coming.

cruzn57, my first car was a '57 Bel-Air post. It actually belongs to my older brother but I fixed it up and drove it my senior year of h.s. At the start of the year it was in primer and it got the nick name the batmobile. By the end of the year we had it painted a Corvette red and they started calling it the bloodmobile then. It wasn't too hotrodded but it was all a 17 year old needed. Mild 283 4bbl, 3spd in the floor. It was an old non-synchro 1st gear. My brother showed me how to back it down and go to second to stop the synchros so I could shift to first and pop the clutch to lock the limited slip into posi. I had soo much fun backing down and burning it out. He still has it but it hasn't seen the road since I stopped driving it in '83.
ChavoLC2 I am familiar with the "Jug" it was supposedly the only prop job that could touch the sound barrier in a dive and hold together.
