If, you could pack up the family and move anywhere in the United States where would you go to live and why? Keeping in mind you are not rich, just an average Joe who would need a job or start a small business.

I have lived in Boston, Chicago, Colorado Springs, new jersey, puerto Rico, Guam, NW Louisiana, Newport news VA and between San Francisco and Sacramento.....and I ann only 39
I honestly can say I liked everywhere I have lived. It would be hard to decide on a next place. This is an interesting topic

Already moved there.:D
X2, I have too. I have been around Texas and to the SE Wi area for a year where I learned a lot and the lesson was I like Texas. No state income tax, though property taxes tend to make up for that. Plenty to do in H-town and DFW. Drag Racing pretty much year round, and cruises/car show too. It is hot in the summer but that is what a/c is for. We looked for a place out in the country and made several offers but none were accepted and countered with figures that just didn't match up with the $4/gal gas I would have to buy to get to work and back. So we bought a place in town. Close to shopping and such. Has a cement pond and a garage around back but I have found that even though we just reached our first full week here the neighbors have already called the city on us. Oh well, that is what open headers are for. Ill be sure to unload my car from the trailer when I get home late from the track.

I would like to try living in South Padre Island, TX , January thru March , to get away from the cold and snow here in the Midwest.

If I were just an "average Joe" living on a tight budget, I'd either stay where I am (in the Memphis area) or move to Birmingham. They are both areas large enough to have plenty of things to do, with quite a few job opportunities.....and they both have a low cost of living, which is handy for an "average Joe"

If I were moving, and money were a bit more plentiful, I would either live outside of Nashville, Charleston, or Savannah.

Somewhere other than expensive northeast !!!!! CT is the 4th most expensive state to live in behind Alaska, Hawaii and California.

So I would pick somewhere out of tornados and hurricanes way and mostly warm and near a 1/4 mile track and somewhere where rust free cars are. I was thinking SC ,NC , TN , KY, VA or ???? I'm open to suggestions

Right here.... Been in the Atlanta area since 73. From Peeoria, Il. Never looked back.
Moved to the country in 2007, and find the inconveniences are far outweighed by the quiet...<300 folks in town, 10 mi to the larger town...Madison is about 60 mi east of Atlanta,,,
One can spin the tires, run open pipes, shoot guns, [AND carry them!].:D
AND.......Taxes this yr are $550.00:cool:

TH ATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!:D

SoCal (San Diego)
Pros: the weather; the scenery; no bugs; variety of things to do and places to go; huge car culture; close to vegas; access to everything
Cons: expense (average house$300-500k/ no land); state taxes; smog rules; traffic; minor earthquakes; fires; too many people

Moved to KY...
Pros: cheap to live (Average house under $100k spend more and get a few acres); beautiful scenery; lots of water for those with boats
Cons: Snow; state taxes; allergies; too many people

Looking at going back to FL
Pros: always the same weather; decent car culture; no state taxes; relatively cheap to live (average house just over $100, not too much land unless you're in the boonies)
Cons: weather is always hot and humid; bugs; snakes; too many people

Also thinking about AZ... Anyone have real world info on that state?

Scorpions are not cool Aj. We've just started getting some of them and I've been stung twice this year. No reaction other than they hurt like a bitch, even the little ones.

I went to college in Lubbock and I remember the big dust storms that came out of NM. Only place I ever lived where you could march in mud and get dust in your eyes. :) Other times, it was like it rained a very fine reddish brown dirt that covered almost everything and then we'd get a 6" rain, a drop every 6", which really made a mess.

Understand why there was a country song by Mac Davis called "Happiness is Lubbock in my rear view mirror". :D

I've never been but always have thought about living in Texas.

NH is fine with me. I don't mind the cold, our winters are becoming more and more mild (global warming?). I hate hot muggy weather. No air conditioning in this old house. Spring and Fall are beatiful. Very few natural disasters like tornados/hurricanes. Some big snow storms but we know how to handle them. We got the ocean, lakes, and mountains. Hunting, fishing, snowmachines, skiing, hiking, etc. Big city not far, small/medium sized instate and plenty of rural. Got many nice circle tracks and NED, plenty of cruise nites. Bike week in Lanconia. We have on of the nations lowest unemployment rates and no income taxes. We do get killed with property taxes though. There's a low crime rate and alot of people carry. I moved up from just outside Boston and don't like going back down unless it's for a concert. We're big sports fans around here with champion teams in all major sports, although the Red Soxs suck this year. Been to many states but am alway happy to be back here.

Well you've got almost a year to plan on getting in on the Power Tour Peter. Come on over and visit for a little.;) You might just decide to move your whole operation and make more than you are now.
