I had an aftermarket header panel on mine when I got it.Dunno whose it was but had "Taiwan" embossed on the inside of it.JMHO,it sucked! the fit for the bezels was way off, screw holes not lined up ,yadda, yadda.I grabbed another stock one from a guy and fit like a glove. If your repair isn't too extensive go for it.If not HIGHLY recommend a good used one, or does anyone else have reviews from the vendors here?

I saw this on ebay and it does look exactly like other new header panels i've seen - as in the primer color.

Anyone have a decent experience with a new one? Usually the bolt holes don't line up, etc.

if no one has had a good experience, then I'll just fix my stock, cracked one.

Thanks in advance

NEW 84-87 BUICK REGAL GRAND NATIONAL GN HEADER PANEL:eBay Motors (item 200326175212 end time May-29-09 09:00:52 PDT)

I bought one of these panels from this ebay seller a couple of months ago for my regal. I haven't installed it yet but i did test fit the bezels and they fit very good, even though his ad said this part is made here in the USA on the box in big letters it said made in Taiwan.

John

Thanks for the replies. That's horrible that he says made in the USA, but it isn't so.

I will probably fix mine, but it does make me feel better that one person had a good experience with this exact vendor.

John, did you ever fix your header panel? I have a cracked one and i cannot install because it is in 2 pieces. I wanted to know if you fixed it and how did you do it?

When I do mine I'm going to use plastic bumper adhesive. I have 2 header panels I'm going to make one good one unless I find one local cheap.

SEM makes a SMC repair Kit, have you seen it? My local body shop supply has it but i have to buy the gun for it also, $60-$80 total. Never done one and was wondering how well they hold it...

I can check around here for you Jesse. Most of the dirt guys just throw them away so I should be able to get one cheap for you if someone is doing a build. Shipping shouldn't be to bad If I can find someone going north for something else.

I bought one of the aftermarket fiberglass header panels. It was an enourmous amount of work to try and make it fit properly. I wound up cutting the bad part off my stock piece and grafting in the same piece from the aftermarket piece. It turned out perfect. This was my only option as I searched but could not find a used GN header panel for sale. I wrote a letter to Year One and suggested they produce one for the GN, its under advisement.

We sell the aftemarket fiberglass unit and IMO it is just OK certainly not up the quality of a stock unit in fit and finish. Good for a race car not for a show car. Problem is I have not found anything better out there

I have a buddy here that has repaired about 6 header panels for me threw the years and one was broke right into. He is a body and paint expert and he uses the SMC kit (which is Sheet Molded Compound) from a local auto paint supplier and NOT one of them has ever showed ANY problem. He fixed mine 5 years ago (got a bad crack in it) and you'd never know it to this day. I say fix your original.

Iv'e dealt with 2 of the aftermarket ones and you talk about JUNK !!!!

I wrote a letter to Year One and chewed their ass for advertising a turbo buick on one of their main advertisements when they don't even sell any parts for them. I'm gonna stop here cuz I don't want to get started.

Sal,
I was told it can be fixed with epoxy and then filler. Never had to fix mine because I found another local.
Good luck on what you do.
