I,for one, would be more than grateful to donate. As previously stated this site is crucial to us and I would be in the weeds if it wasn't for the sage advice freely given here.

On the BMX boards, you have to be a $20 dollar a year site supporter in order to use the for sale forums.

Everyone needs to be clicking on the ads...its a small amount that is made by clicking but if we all click through it will help.

I hate to see ads, banners, etc too but realize that a site like this takes quite a bit of money to run, maintain, and improve. I'm all for the donate button. It's voluntary so only those that want to contribute, can do so. I'm all for doing whatever I can to help sustain turbobuick.com

Simple questions here....

HOW MANY here consider themselves hotrodder's?
And how many of you frequent the HAMB? Hokey Ass Message Board - THE H.A.M.B.

Those of you who don't, don't know Ryan or what he's done in providing what's unquestionably the highest trafficked car oriented website, in conjunction with other's, the jalopy journal, and the garage journal. Well, it would seem that he's MADE of money considerring the high end clientel's site design work etc, he does.

WE may not enjoy that ride here, as BUICK Enthusiast's. However I would like to draw your attention to the top of the list @ the HAMB. The sticky's you see there are unsolicitted user funding of the site through on-site auction's/raffles (if you choose) of goods and services of interest to the membership which the providers voluntarily donate all proceeds from, to the site. And Ryan has NEVER asked for ONE THIN DIME for site maintenance or support.

Now I ask you...

How many tidbit's of REGAL'S would it take to make a difference around here, stickied to the top of "The Lounge"??? A bumper filler here, a set of trim panel's there, a module, a sensor, or even a used engine part no longer needed as you upgrade...? $10 to Shane for something you aren't using. Another $25 here, $50 there, $200, $500, to SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY YOU BELIEVE IN AND BENEFIT FROM!!!!!

I know factually that I have placed winning bids of over $500 for items on the HAMB, for the site.

SO

?????????

What is stopping THIS community from getting off their cheap a$$e$ and throwing a HELPING HAND in to Make Sure that You'll always be able to enjoy what is provided here?

Why would any single person need to be told to do other than leave it ALL in the hands of Shane, Jay, and the many moderator's who've stepped up to help?

Please don't mistake that as being a condescending tone. I'm merely stating that the future of this community is in ALL OUR HANDS!!!!:D

Yeah, I have a problem asking for anything... I make the decisions here that have to be made. I wouldn't feel right if someone had given money and then for some reason we had to restrict his/her access for any reason... I try to be as honest in life as possible, add the fact that I try to be a giver and not a taker...

Again, I do not do this for the money... As long as I at least break even all is good... However with the economy like it is and a few previous bad investments I have made I just don't have the spare income I used too... Heck I haven't even bought a Buick in a long time now:frown::biggrin:

The idea Riv had above is a good one IMO... I have had ONE member that sent me a VERY GRACIOUS pay pal for all the parts he and his brother had sold here... I was blown away...

I am listening guys so keep the ideas coming...

I am getting ready to redo the vendor list, it is going to shrink a bit:eek:

I would have no problem kicking up cash for a site supporter fee. I renew mine on Vintagebmx.com even though I rarely visit it anymore.

I feel ya Shane, but at the end of the day you have to be able to detach from the community aspect and realize a business responsibility that some others may not grasp.
Every time I look at the at that time record holding Garlits piston and sleeve on my shelf I recall the losing HAMB bidder, and competitive regular winning bidder who was shortly after, banned for excessively bad behavior. In Your shoes, you have to take it day by day...

The success or failure of this board which provides So much for BUICK people is provided US from good graces of a concentrated few others.

I know I'll be taking a little time off of building a pole barn this weekend to see what I have left on my storage shelves that may be of interest to others in the community....

The true sign of a Great Community, is that nobody will ever ask you for what you're willing to depart with in support of...

Thats why I try to keep stuff unintrussive for you guys also. I know it sucks to have to see a bunch of ads. What Ive done here is as minimally invasive as I could make it and still be effective. I dont have any sidebars with ads running or any of that crap like other boards do. The Ebay forum helps when people buy stuff through those adds. It all ads up, it just doesnt add up to much. The site made $470 through Google last month so right there, it was $700 upside down, for one month. Hopefully the extra ads are going to be bring it back inline.

But yea, donations and all that stuff are cool but we've tried to do this without having to ask you guys for anything and honestly, its the reason I lose my mind when people complain about the way the site works, looks, etc. The amount of time that goes into keeping a site like this running from a technical standpoint with just ONE person doing that and all the other stuff like adding mods, patching things up, etc is staggering. Its a slap in the face when I spend all this time doing this stuff and get NOTHING but complaints. Im not asking for sunshine, rainbows and puppys but at least people could keep their mouth shut out of appreciation if nothing else.

Just an idea here: Would it be possible to recoupe a small fee in the For Sale section for selling parts? I got no problems sending some money for selling my junk...better than E-bay....

What about something like for $100 you can have anyone banned for a week.

Charge to sell parts. Charge more for parting out a car.

What about a model where you have to pay to search by buying a yearly subscription after you've done the first 5 searches for free?

Hate to keep stirring this pot, but it's an important issue to all of us in the end...so before I jump to construction work for the day....

There will always be some free loader's in every situation we find ourselves in, BUT...

If the FS forum is something that you frequent, what's to stop You from starting a thread with a title like "Read Before Posting", that ask's the simple question of others,,, How much do you TIP your waiter for a GOOD Meal? And wouldn't it be equally appropriate in the case of dealing with a WEBSITE that provides YOU with access to other enthusiast's!!!??!!!

All it would take from there is a PM, asking for the sticky!;)

WE member's, given membership without charge or expectation of contribution, HAVE THE POWER<6, to make a difference, however small with every action, or large with every generousity to make the world around us better.

What better place to start, than with what we truly enjoy or believe in, and seek our solace or grounding with others from, or just get our Rocks Off attempting to dominate with!??!

There's SO much I see coming out of this site that we take in, and take out with us,

don't wait to be asked. That's just Not gonna happen. Take it upon yourself. And don't just do it once. Make a habit of it!;):D

See, there's say $200 in revenue! :)

Charging to sell parts fees would go directly to the site. Of course whatever it costs would go to the buyer, but that is how it works in the real world. Maybe you get X free posts in the for sale section and then after that its what, $5 a yr? There has to be some revenue there that really wouldn't be passed on to the buyer if you sell lots of parts.

I was going to mention this
Everyone should click on a banner every time they log on. It helps generate money.

See pacecarta? you started a good thing here with this thread.
