I just had a Kurtz-built 200-4R put in my f-body, and I love the thing. However, the fellow f-body people seem to think that this tranny is not going to hold up in my car (about 470-80 RWHP on motor and about 620 RWHP on spray). How many of you GN people have successfully had these built 200-4Rs hold low-10s or better? If so, please post the tranny, your best time, and how long the tranny has lived. I would like to get some idea so that I could report it back to the LS1/f-body folks. I figure that holding that torque in a heavier GN would more than silence naysayers for the lighter f-bodies.

Thanks!

My gn is a low 10 car I give the trans a freshen up every year.Mike builds a very good trans.I think it will live.

gene fleury went 9.90 @ 136 w/ 1.3X 60' last year with his stock block.

he's gone more high 9's this year while sorting out the new stage motor.

~3200 lb car.leaves hard off the footbrake,like 20 lb launch hard:eek: .

a friend of his up in washington builds them for him.

A lot of guys in TSM are running a Turbo 200-4R. Including Jason Cramer (9.96), Lonnie Diers (10.32), Keith Egan (10.65), yours truly (10.67) - these I am sure of. I am not certain of Bamford (10.10), Dave England (10.4), Brett Rudbeck (10.3) and the others. Walt Judy (10.3), Bob Slusser (10.5) and Steve Hughes all run a 400.

Lawrence Coney used to run a Mike Kurtz 200-4R back when Tweaked 1 was running in the 9's.

Personally, I wouldn't listen to the F-body guys at all when it comes to the 200-4R.:p

Scott I know Dave England was a 400 but you are correct most of the TSM cars are 200 cars.
See ya, Kip

I'm starting to become a believer

It seems the best solution for an OD tranny is the 2004r. The TH400 seems more cost effective but no overdrive for daily driving.

Yea well....

The fact that I am the working on your car Dave prolly , might have something to do with it!!!

I just drove my car 540 miles and went 10.14 at a 1700 ft track and its up to 3550# with me in it now. You got to love it through full exhaust on dots and a 200 tans.. I Hurt the 2nd gear band in it this year but besides that i take it out once or twice a year to freshen it up. I race it EVERY weekend during the summer and i drive the car like im mad at it all the time ;) Bruce i asked before and you never said. Did you get that band i sent? I hope your arm is ok by now:)

Now for another question?
does any of these guys running low 10s or high 9s have any Billet or hardend internals(FWD Drum, mainshaft, servo, apply pin, anchor)?? I would believe all these would be needed or some at least. especially if the converter is locked up!

He he, yeah that has a little to do with it. BTW I'll need to get a "freshen up" and the 4340 pieces in my 4L60E before the racing season next year. Could you work up some pricing for me so I'll know how much to scrape together. And are you sure we can't put a transbrake in it? Too bad I can't scrape up enough to buy your badazz turnkey racecar and stop foolin' around with the camaro huh? I don't know how I could pull that off since I work for the lottery and they won't let me win any big jackpots. :( Maybe I could buy it slowly piece buy piece. ;)

Kewl, Now if you tranny guys could beef up a 4L60E to do that then I'd really be impressed. :D

I am very close with the 4L60E. The websight has not been updated but I built the transmission for this LS1 that went 10.06@136 (on motor only) just 3 weeks ago. Since then has went 711 RWHP on the dyno all motor. Also has a 150 shot just in case. When you hit the NOS it will blow threw the locked up 5 disk converter Vigilante and smoke it. Wasted 2 on the dyno. Not sure but would guess I have some of the fastest 4L60Es in the country. We think this car will go 9.40s guess we will see. I have many 4L60Es to this day that run 10.50s and have been doing it for 6 months or more. http://www.ls1speed.com/som.cfm

Nice website Lonnie. My lightened LT1 car is probably only putting down about 300hp at the rear wheels but I plan to add 150 shot of nitrous. I'm going to have the car dynoed N/A this Sat. The LT1 motor has a ton of torque and nitrous just adds to it so I'm a little concerned about the tranny holding up. I like the 4L60E a lot because I can program the shift points. Currently, as you know, the tranny is slipping at full throttle. The band is not holding. My options are:

1. have the tranny "freshened" and some hardend pieces added

or

2. Get a different tranny (TH400) in preparation for a motor buildup later.

What would you recommend in this case and do they make a good transbrake for the 4L60E?

The motor buildup probably won't be for a couple of years since the 70kmi. LT1 is still very strong.
