Nice website Lonnie. My lightened LT1 car is probably only putting down about 300hp at the rear wheels but I plan to add 150 shot of nitrous. I'm going to have the car dynoed N/A this Sat. The LT1 motor has a ton of torque and nitrous just adds to it so I'm a little concerned about the tranny holding up. I like the 4L60E a lot because I can program the shift points. Currently, as you know, the tranny is slipping at full throttle. The band is not holding. My options are:

1. have the tranny "freshened" and some hardend pieces added

or

2. Get a different tranny (TH400) in preparation for a motor buildup later.

What would you recommend in this case and do they make a good transbrake for the 4L60E?

The motor buildup probably won't be for a couple of years since the 70kmi. LT1 is still very strong.

How did you determine for sure the band is not holding? You have options but the 400 would be the last one on my list. If you step up to another tranny a 2004R is all you will need. Its an easy install on your car and you get to have your cake and eat it to. There are no transbrakes for the 4L60E that I know of and if so I would not use one. We have come a long way with the 4L60E but we are no where close to making one live in a hard hitting car with a T-Brake.

I'm still not 100% sure the band is not holding but after talking to several people and personal experience driving the car I'm about 99% sure. I plan to get LT1 edit to confirm. Bruce told me the same thing about the transbrake on the 4L60E so I won't go there. At this point I'll probably beat up the tranny some more and then go for the 2004R conversion as my budget allows. Unless, of course, you and/or Bruce come up with a better idea.

I was also thinking of getting a new hood. I like some of the ones on your website. I did not see a "pin on" option. So you know if that's available or not? The only hoods I saw were bolt on. I have a long list of things I still want to do with my Z so I'll be checking out your site to see what you've got. Thanks for all you're help. ;)

Dude not my websight. You would need to give them a call I just build trannys.

oops :o It is a cool site though. Lots of goodies. And the prices are good too. I'm sure I'll be ordering some from there but I have to get the tranny issues ironed out first.

Since we're on the subject of 4L60E..... anyone have any ideas on this one? This one seems strange. The unit was rebuilt 6K miles ago. Shifts fine, fluid looks good, no metal particles. The trans starts making noise at roughly a 1500 rpm output shaft speed. The noise sounds almost like a quiet electric drill. The noise is not present in or out of gear when stopped. The noise will raise in frequency and volume as driveline speed increases. By the time the output shaft reaches 2500 and up, I hear it clearly. Taking the car out of gear at road speed does nothing to the sound. I've pretty much eliminated the idea of the converter, or pump due to the noise being tied to output shaft speed and not crankshaft speed. There is no change in noise as a load is increased or decreased,
It doesn't matter what gear the trans is in, again it is tied to output shaft speed.

Anyone have any ideas?

1500 rpm of output shaft speed equates to roughly 37 MPH, 2500 RPM output shaft speed is roughly 60 MPH.

OK, you asked: My car ran all through the 10's from 1997 to mid-2000, through the stock block, Stage 1 block, and the current Stage II block. I was committed to staying with the 2004R, stock shifter, and foot-braking as long as I could and it was reliable. Between mid-2000 and mid-2001, the car went 9.61 @ 141 with the 2004R and many 9.7-9.9 runs mostly at 3300' elevation. I told myself that if I damaged two 200s within a short period of time, I'd go to a TH400 with a brake and that's what I did last year. I had one of the 2004Rs repaired (now residing in the daily driver), whereas the other one has been sitting on the floor since the day I removed it, a reminder of a home-improvement that never was ;). Both have some billet internals.

FYI, one car: 9.43 @ 143.7 underachiever, TH400
other car: 11.02 @ 124.X with ventilated block, 2004R

Just wanted to say thanks to Lonnie for replying to this before I saw it... and thanks to the people that liked my site. I designed it and recently have re-designed it... the page about the shop car will be back up shortly.

Thanks!!!
