Why have girls work at Parts stores???????

Sorry for the girls out there that know there stuff. And I'm not saying I know everything also. I went to 4 local parts stores looking for Cam assembly lube. It must be a Sunday thing, but every store has girls working today. Not 1 had any idea what I was talking about 1 asked me what kind of part is it used for??? I had plans to work on the engine today, but now I get to look through some car mags instead. Is there anything else I can use on the lifters?? The engine might sit for a while till I get a chance to fire it up. I'm looking for something that will hold up for a while till I can fire it up.

There's a number of guys, that shouldn't be called *Parts Personnel*.

With this ever save a penny at any cost mentality sweeping the nation, don't be surprised when it gets much worse. For min wage, no one's going to find much in the way of experienced personnel. The saddest thing about the mom+pop stores closing, is now, only the dealerships, can afford (and not all do), parts people that have a clue.

It is tough to compete these days paying trained parts personal what they demand. The huge chain stores buy so much cheaper and get so many other kickbacks from the suppliers that most stores can afford 1 trained employee and several bodies. The chain stores operate on this formula. The buyers want the lowest price and the chain stores offer this. I had a store for many years and the customers would spend time in my store getting the information my trained higher paid employees had to offer then go to the chain store or on line and buy the part. The old saying Be careful for what you ask for, really applies here. You want the cheapest price you will get it and the cheapest made parts and untrained personal. Look no farther then Auto Zone or Walmart to see your dreams fulfilled

We have a few girls working the cashier job at the parts stores. One of them is knowledgable and cute. While the other one is cute but has no idea.

I guess I am spoiled when I walk into a parts store around here. When I walked in they say "Hi Ben". Do I pay more for parts sometimes, yes. But I think it is worth it, when the extra money goes to pay for the parts counter person's hot rod.

Try finding a small independant parts place. I have always had better luck with them.

Hey Dennis, They were all FUGLY!! 1 couldn't even speak english all that well. I have been slowly putting my parts list together to get the new engine in the car. Haven't been on here all that much. How is the white T doing?? Dennis you have any parts laying around you want to sell???? I have some stuff I still need to get.

Just amazin how stupid, and short sighted most people are. They whine about prices, jobs going overseas, and then shop at Walmart. Like they say, you just can't *satisfy, the stupid*.

GM sells EOS, also used as cam break in oil and extreeme oil pressure additive.
Ive been using it for 6-7 years, kinda like it.
I add one bottle per oil change to make up for todays crap oil

lubri-plate heavy white lithium grease was what alot of mechanics used before the moly stuff came out. worked pretty well for them.

Can usually find the assembly lube in the oil section over where they have the grease tubes, posi lube, and grease guns in a little section next to the motor oil in most stores...O'Rileys, Pepboys, and the AZ near my house have it there.

You need to checkout the Chick that works at the Manchester NH. ADVANCE AUTO formerly Western auto. She can blow :tongue: most of the young male coworkers away in her knowledge.
There are dudes out thier that are just as stupid. DID you young guys here not know you are from the stupid generation? :wink:

My buddy and I went to the "good" Parts store for brakes for his 65 Falcon. I called it Falconstein because it had parts from so many different cars. The guy vapor locked because the rears were from a Mustang and the front spindles were Granada. Could not fathom it was all on the same car. We were there forever spoon feeding this guy.

Next day I went to Kragens for tune up parts ect for 2 of my cars and 2 of my neighbor's cars. The cute young girl behind the counter never missed a beat. Had me out of there in no time. I was very impressed.

oh yeah, I'd rather be getting help/or lack of from a cute girl at the auto parts store rather than a burly guy that doesn't know any more than the girl
You'd think as popular as f-body cars are..when you tell the guy you need a part for a Trans Am and the guy asks what make that is..you're probably dealing with someone who doesn't have a clue...

The NAPA by my house is pretty good. Run by a few older guys, very knowlegeable. Its not as much of a store as it is a warehouse (wood floors, not many displays, rows and rows of parts on shelves, no windows and only a back door. Autozone on the otherhand, is an awesome place to get car washing stuff. Usually have some decent eye-candy too.

Good points both sides. Lets consider though that women are often pretty good at multitasking and a "perky" personality isnt a negative.

Picture a bubbly "Hi! Welcome to Sunshine Parts. How can I help you" coming from some dude... think "bubbly".

The often softer voice and an easier on the eyes look helps keep the irate less irate. Ditto for phone. The best combo for us many moons ago was to have former techs, non techs, and some women on staff to run the counter. Strengths played off each other.

Thats not to say what your experiences may be in a particular area, chain, or store.
