Just what the post says, having a problem with flare on the 1-2 shift @ WOT. Sometimes hanging up enough to hit the rev limiter, especially if I turn the boost up. At cruising speeds 1-2 is hits pretty hard. Right now I have a 85 BQ trans with stock servo & superior shift kit. 3-4 shift is nice and firm. Will a larger servo help me out or am I out of luck. Next is there any help for a burnt band?

It may help for a little while but if you have done the slide move already then the band is probably gone..

install a 1/4 inch checkball in the 1/2 accumaulator housing feed port.tap it in with a hammer or punch and then flat sand it .report back.

1-2 slide

Thanks for everyones help, I put a super servo in and all shifts are great now. Chris I'am also gonna try your remedy to see if I get even more super positive shifts.

Have you made any WOT runs to test the trans? Did you do the mods Chris suggested, if so is trans shifting even better?

TIA
HOW

Have not yet done the mods Chris suggested yet, I'm saving them for my next rebuild, but I have made several wot passes and my 1-2 slide is gone.

Chris,
Question for ya?

Blocking the 1-2 accumulator, or limiting the travel of the piston by using nuts or a sleeve on the pin...

Any difference in the final effect?

What about partially limiting travel? Like a shorter sleeve/fewer nuts?

Driving a checkball in the port is not as easily reversible as limiting travel is why I ask...

I have tried shimming the 1-2 accumulator with nuts and did'nt like the final effect, shifted way too harsh part throttle. If you were drinking a cup of coffee you would burn yourself and have to sue McDonald's if you did'nt know it was coming. :)

Boostmaster,
I'm wondering how Chris's mod affects it. I would assume it would be the same shift wise. No accumulation...?

However the shimming would be more easily reversible. Wouldn't have to go find another housing.

You should be able to thread & put in a set screw to block accum. also. Though either way shimming the piston or set screw would be easily reversed.

Boostmaster,

How much larger is the "super servo" than the stock servo? Would you by chance have the measurment(s) of the super servo?
I'm having the same problem with my trans...
TIA
HOW

Jim,
I had thought of that too..
I use a similar trick on Th350's when I internally dual feed the directs.
Cut off a 3/8" bolt threads about 3/8" long, cut a slot in it for a flat tip screwdriver, and tap the case behind the pump.
That way I'm not driving a plug in making it permanent.

My 1-2 is pretty decent with the stock GN servo, alto band, and Transgo kit. Firm all around but progressively more so at higher throttle.

Jake do you still use the cushion spring on the servo?
I really like the way mine gets 2nd with the 200 servo I got from Chris. Not harsh @ PT but really gets with it @ WOT;)

Jim

Yes,
still using the cushion spring on the servo.
I may take it off and see what happens :)

Didn't mess with it today but did drive to town however (live in the boonies now :) )

At WOT in 4th gear the converter was locking, or trying to.
Hard to tell, gotta let out of it sometime. Wife was screaming in fear, kids were screaming from pure joy, and I don't need to be driving like that with all of them in the car but....

It was odd,
It will shift to 4th at 5000 rpm (just under 100 mph) and goes into 4th, rpms fall, then it would lock and the whole sound of the engine/exhuast would change. It wasn't a hard lock, but felt like it slid into a locked position.

I'm wondering if:
1. The pressure switch isn't seeing enough pressure to ground unless it is at full TV?

2. There isn't enough pressure to lock the converter until full TV.

3. Converter clutch is worn, and never getting completely locked?

I tend to think it is a switch issue and I need to manually ground it and see what happens.
I've used the same switch on 700's without issue...

Trans has a ground strap to it from the body...

I'm gonna drop the pan next weekend and drill the gov, drill the feed holes on 1-2 and 2-3 a little more and find a lesser spring for the 4th accum.

I'm gonna get it where I like it if I wear the case out doing it.

during hydraulic apply of the servo there are actually 2 accumulators.one is in the 1/2 housing and the other inside the servo in the form of the cushion spring.three if you count the inner spring on the factory 3 piece servo.i am against removing the servo cushion spring on the servo because it is the real cause of broken anchor pins and band lugs, both of which i have never experienced.also it cause banging on kickdowns because the band application is too abrupt and needs cushioning.so why block the 1/2 housing?testing has shown with high stall converters,2800 and up,that the shift feel is not lost with the abscence of adequate hydraulic coupling efficiency.it also produces less of a downshift clunk verses certain combinations of accumulator piston shimming and high rate springs.our shift kit includes such a high rate spring and an orifice for the housing that can be drilled out to reduce shift shock if band apply is too rough.i will state publicly we block all ofthem when used with any 9/10 or 9/11 convertor.the servo cushion spring becomes the shift accumulator 100 percent instead of sharing it with the housing.look out ,coming very soon the ckperformance 10/12 lockup convertor.we are tooling uop and we will have the non billet cover units on the shelf that tcs has discontinued.
