Wrong 2004r crossmember?

Folks,
What problems will I have if I use the V8 2004r crossmember and tranny mount behind a 3.8?
I'm stuffing a 2004r in my '81 and grabbed a 2004r crossmember from a junkyard. But after getting it home, I realize that this crossmember is designed to use the transmission mount that is centered under the trans, not offset to the passenger side. It also mounts solid to the frame without the rubber insulators.
Why is it offset? Is it to to center the weight of the entire engine, trans, and exhaust system?
Thanks,
Brett

I used an '86 Monte SS crossmember in my '80 El Camino for
my th350 to 200-4r conversion. I had to make a mounting
pad for the left side about 10-12'' rearward of where the th350
crossmember bolted to the frame. I installed the crossmember without the rubber pads at first, but it seemed to make the ride
harsh. So I enlarged the bolt holes to about 7/8" and put the
pads on. Much smoother! It probably would have been a little smoother if I had cut off the trans mount pad and relocated it
in order to use the offset V-6 mount, but after rebuiling the trans
and the other conversion stuff, I was too lazy. :) Maybe this
summer I'll move the mount.
