block is still in the car so the final inspection not comeplete yet.

any body ever see wrist pin damage to cylinder walls ?

trw 30 over forged pistons with girdle

car ran perfect except for major oil burning

Sounds like time for a cylinder sleeve.:(

Another reason we use a premium CP piston with springlocks. Sorry to hear about your mis-fortune.

It's happened to me!

I had the wrist pin in #3 go right through the cylinder wall in a Duttweiler built 109 block....BOOM! Nothing left of the piston bigger than a quarter. #5 had a nice groove in it at tear down. When I took another Block to Kenny to have built I told him I wanted floating pins w/ sprial locks on the J&E's. He asked me why and I handed him the #5 rod and piston with the pin hanging 1/2" out of the bore. He asked me "How'd that happen"? I answered.. "I dunno Kenny...you tell me, you built it"! He told me he had never had this type of failure in a 109 setup before. Long story short... he cut me a killer deal on the next motor and I was the first 109 block he had ever done with floating pins. Before it went the motor would smoke but I thought it was because I had washed down the cylinder walls running 50lb'rs with a stock chip (another story altogether!)

Yea, I have a block sitting in my garage right now with that problem! My #3 has a huge gash in it. I believe it was caused by the builder who heated up the rod to put the piston on. Look for bluing. I had to get a different block and made sure the next set of rods were straight before assembly.

You know, when I was pressing my own piston pins, I never used heat. But, a couple of rebuilders I am familiar with do it. I don't like it, factory didn't have to. Sorry about your trouble, glad that the repair was not as painful.
