Just wondering...I keep getting some KR it varies between .02 and 2.6. I know it could be false knock but...

While driving today I manually dropped it in 3rd, purged the alky button, then floored it. Saw the wideband display 11.00-11.02 and the KR was .02-.05. Had 1/2-3/4 tank of 93, chip is set to stock 23/21 specs. Fuel PSI goes up to 70 and then drops down to around 67-68 psi. Boost is 24-25. It's 45 degrees F out.

Can't wait until I can get a power logger...but in the meantime what do you think?

You may be getting a boost spike when you first hit the gas. This is especially common when it gets colder outside. When winter hits, I always decrease boost 1-2psi so I don't kill anything.

What fuel pump are you using.
Are you using straight meth?

So you're saying I have a fat tune and that's false k.r.?

No cam noises, one if the lifters is rather noisy on start up but usually goes away after a bit.

It get's pretty cool here in the fall, colder than the temps you have now. I always have to turn my alky down or I'll get knock from it. Guy's that I know that run alcohol usually run heaters or warm the engines up with gasoline first.

Flash point of Methanol is 54'F, that's the lowest temp that vapours will be given off so it can burn. That is why I suspect you have a bit too much alky going into your motor.

What's the temps there forzfed? I was offered a job there, but passed when I was told that february temps were in -40's!!

It is nice today. The -40 is usually over night with daytime temps in the -35 range but we do get wind here. So some days it feels like -50.:( The blue icon is me being cold.

What kind of job? Excellent car scene here. Summer is awesome here with all the gear heads. There is usually a good 1000 or more vintage/muscle cars cruising here on Sunday. Everyone that I talk to that has moved to other Canadian cities are always disappointed with their local car scene.

It's 12 degrees there !!!!!! It's a chilly 50 here and I don't like that. There was a job opening at a gas fireplace manufacturer there.

It's clear you're spiking 2psi over your 25psi level, with 23-21 degrees of timing with that you're pushing pump too far IMO. Though it's Winter, I'd back it down and be safe.

11:0 to 11:2 is safe for pump and alky, leave that part alone.

Thanks exactly what is this boost spike you speak of?

How far you think I should back it down to?

The spiking is due to the slow evacuation of the exhaust gases through the wastegate puck while you hammer it. That 1st second is so fast the small puck can't open fast enough to level off the exhaust pressure it's set for, so you spike. I ported my wastegate hole and smoothed out the inside so it would only spike about 1/2 pound on those hammers.

Hard to say what to lower the boost too, but IMO, if you see any knock in 3rd you didn't give yourself enough room cylinder pressure wise to enjoy many WOT blasts over and over again. 23psi is safe if you have an aftermarket intercooler to help but 2psi under low levels of knock in 3rd is safe. Preignition is barely mentioned on this site but something Forced Induction cars experience pretty easily when pushing pump gas.

I tune for NO KR. I'm running 93 and alky right now...knob bumped to 7. Eric burnt my chip for 25psi and I'm at 27 and the SM2 reads 760s deep in third. Car runs real clean. No knock. I do know that it can't spike at this point unless its in first gear. She can take 29psi in first because the gear goes by fast and the fuel is there. But the narrowband and the KR agree thus far. Ran good at the track. Never looked too lean. I may be pushing it bit, I know. But hey...ya know.

Thanks. Eric burned my chip for 25 psi on alky. During the summer I didn't see much KR and it wasn't until it started getting cooler. As I understand the mixture gets leaner when colder, but I've also been advised that there's no need to bump up the fuel.

GNVYUS 1 thanx for the explanation...my I/C is a stocker with a Dutt neck mod.

Yeah...and I should add that my tune is really intended for 50+deg....I haven't tested it any colder.
