Ok, this is an update/tutorial I guess for people that want to try this. There is a material called Di-noc, its a carbon fiber styled vinyl made by 3M. It has a very unique texture and looks very cool. Google di-noc and look at the pictures, Ferrari's, Porsche's, Austin Martin's and even Bently's have this stuff on the cars, its that high quality. Its also not cheap, the roll I got for 48x48 was almost 100 dollars shipped, and in the world of vinyl that is very high. But either way I decided to use it to update some things on the car and thought I would share it with you.
First off, this stuff is amazing. Its very sticky, but easily pulls of if you make a mistake. Also, its very rigid but a second of heat from a normal hair dryer makes it soft and pliable like cloth.
I used an xacto knife, a dull screwdriver, a credit card and a hair dryer to do this, not exactly state of the art equipment
I cleaned everything very well with dish soap and water, then scuffed it up with a scuff pad I had for dishes. Then I rewashed it again and cleaned it with a degreaser to remove every possible thing to promote adhesion
So, I started by cutting out a sheet about the same size as the panel and applying it and tucking it in to the outside corners
It really stretches and I heated it up and forced it into the corners, when it cooled it looked great, I then started trimming
I also decided to do my gauges, I was already switching from the crapy 120mph gauge here to a 160 gauge with no miles on it
