Whaddaya think of these things?

Lotus built heads with DOHC on a 5.7. I think they are pretty interesting. I got a good line on one and considering the purchase.

I could sell the motor and buy a good LC2 to throw in there as a tribute to the demise of the TR. Then go lay rubber at BG.

Seriously, are they as collectable as they appear to be?

Thanks for the input.

Dan

Honestly, I think they are OK. Not crazy about that body style but if u can score it realy cheap its definately a collector car. Probably still handles better then 99% of the vehicles on the road today tho.

ZR-1s have a very different sound compared to the average V8. the 405 HP versions in 94 & 95 are more desireable but any ZR-1 is a cool ride. That being said, break the motor and it's costly. Also, don't degrease and hose down the motor without extreme care. The starter is located in the valley under the intake and that's where the water will pool. Mess that up and it's a PITA to fix, the intake has to come off. These cars were pretty expensive, but have come down to fairly reasonable for what they are. I bought a '95 way back when new, it was a hoot.

Those motors are a Pita to work on.Definitely the best looking engine .Hard to find parts and etc,But their fast .94 and 95 had more power,I think they redesigned the heads. 92 was the first year with traction control. If they sit for awhile outside, they have problems with starters and the whole top of the motor has to come apart.Thats when gm would just pull the engine out and put a new one in.They have 4 coils, one for two cylinder. The zr1's definitely hold their value. If you could get it for a good price why not.I don't think any grand national could keep up with a zr1.Not even in the same class.Good luck

I have a buddy would like to sell his '90 w/ 2,700 orig miles that is a smoke gray color (a slight purple look almost). It is a nice clean car that handles great and accelerates better than most new cars still.

Also.... don't damage the rear wheels, that 36mm offset is a PITA to find at a reasonable price. 50mm offset won't fit properly, those fit the Grandsport and are a common swap to the f-body. Bunches of places sell the 50mm 17x11" offset rear.

That smoke grey ZR-1 looks sweet.

one of my uncles bought one about 10 years ago- a '90, i think.
he paid something like $30k for it thinking it was at the bottom of the depreciation curve, then watched the values of them go down and down and down as the C5/C6 vettes became more and more common.
so he decided to have fun with it and dropped it off at Doug Rippie Motorsports one winter. bigger cams, ported heads, better exhaust, bigger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, etc.. i haven't talked to him for a while- i think he got sick of me asking him if i could take it for a spin every time i saw him..

I really think these will make a comeback down the road...plus there are quite a few very low mile examples out there. They're kinda like the turbo regals... just a very unique combination. I'd personally be after a white with red interior!

Nice talking to you tonight Dan, but don't do it bud! Just get another TR and you'll be happy and have room for the twins. This way at least your wife will know they're safe when you take them out in it.

You know what Charlie....I think you talked me out of th ZR. Either that or the beer did.

Change of direction:

use this thread to post pictures of your lawn. Ty....I mean grass and trees and water features.

What is he looking to get for it? That is the same color as mine. they made 72 charcoal gray zr1 corvettes in 90 and a few more in 91 and then they stopped that color. There are a whole bunch of red ones.they are the ones on ebay for cheap . His car with that mileage is probably worth well over $35,000. Check out zr1 registry .com.
I have had $25,000 offers for mine but would rather keep it.

2001-2004 C5 Z06's are far superior in every way. See if you can even find head gaskets for the LT5

I thought the engines as a whole were built by Mercury Marine since GM didn't have experience with casting Aluminum at the time.

Alan, you are correct. Built in Oklahoma by Mercury Marine.

Thanks for all the input guys, I value your opinions.

Seems like I have returned to my bug for another TR.

In a way, passing is a smart idea. Vette replacement parts are quite high. Stuff like electronic adjustable shocks.... $2K for the set. Need any engine work on an LT-5? bend over. It will eat you alive quickly.

You want to see Ty's "shaved lawn" and " water features"? Is there something you're not telling us Dan?:biggrin: Way to easy.

Get a TR bud and then you can have some fun again.

YAY!!

Oh how I hate you right now.:frown: You lucky bum!

The plus side is they cleaned all the old corn out of the garden that didn't get picked due to bugs. So we don't have to worry about rogue corn next year.

The negative side is the dog found some turkey droppings and rolled in it. Then she came in and rolled around under our bed.

You're probably thinking how easily I can accquire Thanksgiving dinner though. No need. The company I work for gives us free turkeys for Thanksgiving. Mine is still in the freezer from last year, because our family eats prime rib for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I'll take that over turkey any day.
