Ive talked to bruce he says regular hydrolic fluid is wat he recommends... ATF has red die in it and detergents that can strip away grit from the clutches

I looked at that over the weekend and decided to risk an extra quart of stuff I already had. Used the O'Reilley's stuff for over 10 years, 200+ trips down the track with lots of street play before I had the convertor freshened. Talked to the guy who built the tranny and he said there were two seals in Bruce's setup for the pickup tube and the filter and one was probably missing or leaking.

Hydraulic oil is definitely in my sights but want to get the right weight to make sure there is no change in spooling. Been told ISO 46 is what I need and Tractor Supply has it for about $50 for 5 gallons in its name brand and Mystic is about $30 for 2 gallons.

As far as the 700 filter and stock pan, are you using two orings or the crappy orange thing that comes with the filter? Also you might have to epoxy the front corners of the filter where it is crimped. If they get uncovered it can suck air there.
 
Glad I saw this. I'm going to add more fluid and cross my fingers. It only flared once or twice and since then, I've been easy on it to salvage what I can. Maybe I'll get lucky since this trans doesn't even have 10k on it. Thanks
 
Got the 7004R filter and 2004R gasket and took the car to my buddies to check things out. The car has Bruce's deep pan and it also has been plumbed with copper tubing that places the filter all the way to the back of the pan and it almost hits the bottom of the pan. My buddy works on cars for a living and said he thought the filter looked like an old style PowerGlide filter.o_O He cleaned the filter up, put the pan back on and refilled the tranny. I've hammered it about a half dozen times and it shifts firmly but smoothly in regular driving and the 2-3 shift is made without hesitation at 88 MPH even with boost turned up to 26lbs.

Bison was right; the 6265 does come alive at 25. 26 is even better and I'll go to 28 if necessary.

Will see how it runs at the track tomorrow night.

bruce's deep pan takes a lot to get close to the full line on the stick
i ran his deep pan on my 86 (now its on the 87 ttop) holds almost 13 qts .
the short sheet metal pan holds 11 qts
with the rear sump deep pan idont overfilled it like i would on a stock pan
on a stock pan if your car spools quick or launches hard fill it to the middle of S bend on the dip stick

i ran his deep pan on my 86 (now its on the 87 ttop) holds almost 13 qts .
the short sheet metal pan holds 11 qts
with the rear sump deep pan idont overfilled it like i would on a stock pan
on a stock pan if your car spools quick or launches hard fill it to the middle of S bend on the dip stick

Thanks for the information. The filter looks similar but it is longer proportionally, the pickup is more centered and it has another fastener on the other end of the filter that is attached to the "plumbing lines". I should have taken a picture but I didn't expect to see what I saw. It took 8 quarts out and 8 quarts in to get it filled to the top of the hatch mark of the non-stock dipstick.

I talked to the Amsoil people, home office and local distributor/race car shop here in OKC and they both recommended I stay with atf and didn't really push their brand. I'm going to look into this deeper especially the fluid thickness, ISO viscosity grade. Tractor Supply sells hydraulic oil and it's VG is rated at 46 for general use while a guy on this board gets his from Auto Zone where VG is 68. My car spools very fast and I want keep it that way and I remember how sluggish spooling was when I tried some 15/50 race oil in the car.

Will find out how it runs tonight unless we get a rain shower.

I've ended up slicing the sides of the sump and adding a section to deepen it. All good now but was I missing something?
 
At what point would you need to add the 1/2 to 1 quart with a lightly modded motor?

To use the stock Pan w/700 filter the Signal Pipe on Vbody and the Filter neck needs to be shortened.

The shallow Pan uses the 200C filter, not sure which filter the deep pan uses. Bruce "WE4" would know.
