What could cause a 2004r to pump itself dry thru the vent tube? The trans was not over-filled, nor was it hot. This happened immediately after starting engine (cold start), i noticed a huge puddle on the garage floor. I will say the trans has in the past been known to spit a bit of fluid out the vent @ WOT, but now it's pumped itself empty @ idle. I did verify the fluid was not coming from the cooler lines, pan, or front pump.

Thx,

This doesnt seem possible. Its not connected to any pressurized circuit at all. Are you sure the oil cooler lines are free of holes? Maybe the front bushing in the pump housing walked forward an blocked the return hole forcing the oil to come out past the front seal? It should never spit at WOT either. Maybe you have the wrong dipstick or tube and are getting erroneous readings.

Bison, it looks like I have to eat a little crow on this one. Upon further inspection, fluid is in fact coming from the top side of the high pressure line & not the vent tube. The way it was spraying out of the top of the fitting, it made it look like it was raining down from the vent tube area. Thanks for the sanity check.
