Hey guys.
It's been awhile since I posted here. I just picked up a 2004R for my Chevelle and I need to change out the speedo gears. Now, I now to get at them you have to pull out the 4th gear governor, but does anyone have any clearer pictues or instructions on exactly how to get at them and change them out? TIA :)

It's not difficult to change the speedometer gear, but you should
take a few pictures of the governor from various angles before you remove the gear retainer. The balls can fall out, etc. and you might have trouble figuring out exactly where each part goes without a guide. A filter kit, a governor cover gasket, and a case of trans fluid should also be on site. I hope you like your 200-r4 as much as I like mine. :D

Where is the governor located? Any pictures?

The governor is under the 4-bolt housing at the rear of the
valve body. BTW, the bolts have 13 MM heads. I don't have
any 200-4r pictures on this computer. :(

Interesting pickup ahead of your governor housing, Jim, though I'd consider bridging a support across just behind the elbow to avoid possible fall out from chuck holes.

What's the rock strainer/filter media? (I assume that you run an external filter).

Looks like it coulda been longer... hopefully long enough to stay wet in low gear. At one point Chris mentioned that the fluid crawls up topside back there, so how far is far enough??

Yes, the governor (with the driving gear on its' shaft) is under the cover. Depending on the differential gear ratios involved, old car to new, this gear may not need to be changed.

A.G.

I've used similar pickups on Th400's and 200's.
I use the brass screen from a TH200 filter cut apart...
Doesn't require an external filter, it is the same filtering capacity as a stock filter...

Works great for hard launching setups.

Jim,
Did you mention you had problems with this setup though... Still having a pressure drop or?

Didn't work for some reason. It sat on the bottom of the pan & is all the way to back of the main part of a stock pan.
I just went back to a stock filter.

Jim
