Looking to purchase (or if necessary make) 4" aluminum air inlet pipe to connect to Turbonetics 62 w/4" inlet. I thought I was going to get one from Full Throttle Speed but Mike is having trouble with his contractor that is supposed to bend the tubing hasn't and apparently won't return Mike's calls. We have waited 3 weeks and still no bent tubing. I e-mailed Ramchargers yesterday and they are out of their 4" piece with no idea when they will get more.

It is looking like I will have to buy the tubing and elbows and get it welded locally. I am going to FAST so MAF will not be an issue. Would like to mount a 4" outlet x 9, 12, or 14" K&N (or equal) air filter on the other end. Filter will sit just about where the charcoal cannister used to sit. I'm going to make a 2-sided aluminum box that will sit in the corner to enclose the filter to keep warm engine air away from it.

Are there other options that I'm missing?

Conrad Carter

ps...I've seen Mark Huffman's system on web page and not interested in that at this time.

When you find out, let me know. I'm about to get my car back and my new turbo has the 4" inlet. Right now I have a 3-4" reducer on the turbo to mate to the solid 3" maf pipe. I have seen some people run the stock looking hose on theirs, but that's not for me. PVC looks too heavy and cheap. I keep meaning to go to Advance Auto and see what they have. I was thinking a straight piece of aluminum pipe and a 45 degree hose would do the trick.

if looks don't matter, a lot of very fast cars run 4" hose (stock type) which is easy to get and easy to work with

check with Nick Micale.....he "may" be able to get you some pipe that will work

Whatever! It is not just a piece of pipe, comes with connectors, hose clamps and sleeve to attach the filter. Chrome ones are also coated on the inside with POR-15 to prevent rusting.

I just got one from Mark. I suppose that no matter how some people look at it, it really is just a straight piece of pipe. Like to most people our TRs are really just old Regals.

I've had a homemade kit banging around under the hood for years. It looked and fit "home made". I got a 4" MAF pipe and Big Mouth kit just last week when I got the bigger turbo.

Mark does an awesome job with the chrome plating, POR-15, elbows and follow-up support. If you follow his advice, fit is nice too. They're a little pricey, but not a lot more than competing products. I don't mind paying a fellow enthusiast a little extra once in a while for his ingenuity.

There's a lot more there than just "a straight piece of pipe".

If anyone is interested, pics are here:

(Be patient - slow connection to the server)

I got the aluminum Big Mouth kit from Mark since my engine isn't really 'show quality'. I do like the way the chrome MAF looks so I sprung for that.

I don't know what your current setup is with regard to the upper plenum, but with a 4" inlet on the turbo the up-pipe won't meet the stock upper plenum (actually it may if you use the fabric-type MAF hose, but I doubt it). You'll either need a plenum spacer or an aftermarket upper plenum. I got a Precision upper plenum which pushes everything up 5/8".

Man this inability to edit posts is annoying. My new connection to my server is stupid slow - very frustrating (though I'm not supposed to be hosting). Here are links directly to the pics:

Jim,

Glad everything worked out for you with the 4" pipe, looks good.

On a different note, was checking out the pics of your basement you did over. Awesome job, hope mine comes out that nice whenever I get around to doing it.:D

Thanks. It took every weeknight and weekend for 7 months to finish but I came out decent (the basement, not the 4" pipe :). I still have some loose ends to tie up but it's pretty much done (at least done enough to have a place to chill beer, prop up my feet and watch the big screen).

That portion of my site is the reason I haven't moved it to the faster, free space I get with my ISP. There's a few hundred meg of pics that I want to keep up - I get a lot of hits on that portion of the site. I have to buy more storage and haven't gotten around to it.

Go to any truck depot and you can buy the stacks that are chrome or stainless for cheap and they look exactly the same in 4". I did and I couldn't tell the difference between mines and the one posted above.
