Oh and this will be a call out soon..

Don cruz is running a 109 block.??

When he was running TSM a couple years ago he set the Record in TSM with a 8.89 with a 109 stock block.

Now he has a TSO setup with stage engine and 88 turbo, 8.06 so far.

Didn't Jim from Precision do this with a back halved car a while a go?

dont you mean a machined girdled, steel crank, forged pistons & H-beam rods, roller cammed, billit mains 8sec TSM MOTOR(far from a stock block 109).(factory stock block109,s in the nine,s) but not for long before you window the block(ALA ORLANDO,GABBYTHE LIST GOES ON AND ON) or drive over youre crank!

I got two that I "think" will do it... One is in our TSM car, we will find out soon:cool:

The other is an Anderson built 109, Mike Litch's creation, with a set of stage 2 heads... This is going in an outlaw car, possibly Spooky, for a 8 sec trail:D

SII heads on a 109? Who'd a thunk it? :D

He's talking stock block, not stock short block. A stock block is just that, a block that came from the factory. A stock short block is a factory assembled bottom end.

Please don't take this the wrong way as I am all for pushing the performance envelope but it gets to the point that - what is the point? I suppose just to be able to say you did it? I am not taking anything away for those that have done it or are still trying to run the number.

I mean it's essentially a stage 2 rotating assembly stuffed into a band-aided, duct taped, superglued STOCK block with some bailing wire for good measure. It's remarkable the power these grandma blocks can handle but I personally wouldn't risk the investment. Let's face it, the blocks won't survive too many sub 9 sec passes no matter what you do to them.

It's still cool though.

Well said Will, My stock block didn't come with cement or girdles or head stouds, you get the point.

I have no doubt that you will get there this year Jason !! Good luck to you!!

I agree. I'll bet years from now for some it will still be the topic of conversation at their dinner table at night...

Exactly! Why do people climb mountians? Why sail around the world solo etc... Just to say I did it:biggrin:

My old motor is a 109 TSM type build with some small valve iron stage 2 heads and 4 barrel intake I convered to FI. I built it for 2 reasons first to my knowledge it had not been done, 2nd I had most of the parts laying around the shop. It was being built as a toy I could use to test different things. I bought a car that has some history that was raced back in the day by Travis Beckendorf from Texas called Spooky, he later had a tube car that some of you may remember called Spooky 2. Shane like the project and bought it all from me before we put the motor in. I am hoping someday he will put it together and see how she runs.

hmm... Not about saying anything, mostly just doing it. I understand the investment part, but nothing about these cars would be considered an investment lol. My goal is being able to have the power to run in the 8s and make it live. I've proven it can be done in the 9.0 - 9.3 over and over again without failures for the past few years. Still running the same setup all this time. I would like to run an 8 second pass but that wasn't the question. I wanted to know who has done it and how many times.. There is only three that I know of personally that have done this with a stock block. There is one guy touting his 8 sec 109 but haven't seen proof yet.

The stock block has nothing to do with the stuff bolted to it :D

Thank Bryan, I've had opportunities to put the car on kill and haven't because it's more fun to race than to fix things.

Kinda like..... nevermind

I like this.. Push yourself and you can climb mountains.

My bad - your question wasn't clear and you said "discuss". I was just stating my opinion on the subject.

I hope you achieve your goals Jason - I really do. You've got a nice combo that obviously works well. The whole 109 craze started with the TSM class but now that the 8 sec barrier has been broken I really don't see the point in risking the rest of the engine components not to mention the safety aspect if the thing lets go during a pass.

There again the 99 different TSxxx classes don't make much sense to me either. I guess to each his own. Good luck!

Been reading alot of stuff about this said individual...Is he really that disliked???

Being an engineer, I wanna ask a question about the 109's. I see most of the guys posting in this thread are well educated in the engines and pretty darn fast. What is the weak point, of the block, at the 8 sec power level? Bottom end or the 8 head bolts? Just wondering how much stronger the girdle makes it and if adding 2 splayed bolts thru the girdle and into the billet caps would gain us anything? Of course, you would need custom made caps, but thats what I do. I make anything I need. Just need a steel type and hardness to start. Any thoughts would be great. If this is of no discussion, my bad.

Coach:biggrin:
