Hey guys, on my 84 gn i have noticed on the passenger side on the firewall near the air box the rear outer corner of the valve cover is hitting the firewall i replaced the motormounts still same issue. at best i can squeeze my hand between the corner of the valve cover and the firewall ( my hands are kinda on the smaller side haha) i dident know if this is a known problem or just me. i searched a bit dident seem to come across anything.. also if anyone has info on the winaldl or other scan tool program i can use with the 84 i would appreciate info on that as well i cant seem to get winaldl to function properly on this car, i read through some posts i found on here how to set it up it dident seem to help..thanks mike

Mike,

Is the heat shield for the heater box correctly mounted to the heater box and not loose?

Was the car ever hit ?? I hope not. But, the frame could be bent up slightly in the front, or the body could be pushed forward a little. It wouldn't take much.:frown:

as far as i know the car fax came back clean no accidents that i found ( dosent mean it was not hit) but yea the heat shield is mounted properly it seems to be anyways. and my buddy restores cars, i had him take a peak at it and the frame dose not appear to have any issues and the body seems straight all the panels like up great no weird gaps or anything of the sort, thats y i figured maybe it was an issue that someone else had..i guess not haha well next summer it gets a frame off so i guess i will get to the bottom of it then thanks guys!

I don't know if it helps or not but in my old Skyhawk I reversed the mounts and found that the engine moved about 1.5" to the rear. It was great for SCCA but I did have some issues with the engine hitting things. Maybe you got the wrong mounts?

Sounds normal to me. Not much room there.
If it hits the firewall during driving, you have too much movement.
Look into HR motormounts.

The stock replacements mounts from local parts stores are a crapshoot.
The rubber (Durometer) is NOT the same as OEM. Ask me how I know. :o

thanks guys yea i checked the tranny mount all seems good there and i am probiably just going to get some better mounts than the advance auto ones! thanks guys!

+1 mine is now about 2mm away from the firewall. Front end collision. Before I could squeeze a pack of smokes between them.
