In the process of plunking down this cash for a pristine 84 T-Type. This is my first Turbo Buick. Is it really only a 15 sec. qrt. mile 8 sec 0-60 car stock??

If so, my work is cut out for me...

It's a "hot air" car as opposed to the 86-87 which are intercooled and easier to build power into.

Yes it is a 15 second car!!

Pretty much 15 seconds when stock, nut you gotta start out somewhere:eek: My WH1 is pretty much bone stock and runs mid 15's in the quarter but it is still fun as hell. The best part to me is everyone has a 86/87, but I stand out from the crowd. They bash me here and there on how there is faster then mine, but I tell them mine is rarer and it makes them think:rolleyes:

If you get the car there are a lot of great guys here in general and here in the Hot Air section who could chime in and help out.

I am still learning everyday, but it is well worth it to me.

I see it this way. Everyone says the Hot Air cars are slow. I really don't think that is really that true.

My buddy has a real nice 87 Cutlass, 350 chevy motor and built up pretty good. It does need some fine tuing but it is really strong.

He has almost the same wieght as I do maybe more seeing that it is a V8.
It is 5.7 liters
My car wieghs maybe a hair less and only has a 3.8 liter motor, yet I have no problems keeping up or passing him;)

So I think not, beside when we hang who gets all the attention:p

Good luck to you!!

X3

If you have patience and the car is in great shape, go for it. I've seen hotair GNs aournd from time to time, but I've never seen a Hotair T-Type in person.

Where in NC are you? There's a large event going on in Burlington, NC in October and it'd be great to see another Hotair there if you get it. Look in the event section under GM Turbo 6 event at Richard Clarks.

Not really. It depends on your goals.
If your honest goal is to go 10's, get an IC'd car and leave the HA alone.
If you are short on patience (like most of us  ), get a "ready to go" car.
Just remember, even with an IC'd car, 12's do not just fall into your lap.

The IC'd cars "only" run about mid 14's stock.
The gap starts widening quick at about mid - high 13's.
Good luck!

Jsut saw that one!!

That is a nice car if that is the one you are looking at!! Love the wheels also and it is a T Top car:D I wish it didn't have to part my T Top out:( Seems real clean and straight and for the price not to bad!!!! I would go for it but thats just me:rolleyes: Good luck what ever your choice is:cool:

That is a beautiful car but that isn't the one I'm looking at. A relative of mine has one that he is selling even cheaper. It has a brand new paint job, new flowmaster exhaust, new water & fuel pump. He has done all new wiring under the hood as well. He bought if from the single owner and just started replacing things so they would look new.

It is silver.

I'm not trying to run 10 sec or anything close. Just wanted it to be respectable-maybe 13 sec range. It is a beautiful car and just wanted a little more performance to go along with it.

By the way I am northeast of Greenville, NC.

I've never heard good things about the flowmasters on a turbo car, so you may need to replace them. I believe they have too much back pressure from what I've read about them.

If your good with wrenching then you can do a lot of the work yourself and save a ton of money. If I had the money I'd definitely be checking out that other T-Type. I already know the pains of keeping a black paint job looking good, but silver is one of my favorite car colors. The other color is white, I'd love to own a white T-Type that has the blacked out trim.

We have a local group that occasionally meets in the Greenville area. The last meet we had was at Shane's shop (The owner of this board) in Benson, NC. Check out the Yahoo group GM_TURBO6.

13's are definitely do-able with the car in Hotair form. Some people (like myself) are big fans of keeping these cars non-intercooled.

I think I can speak for someone here in saying "POST PICTURES"! We'd love to see this car.

15 seconds in the quarter mile stock from a car that weights about 3800# is damn good, especially since it came out of the 80's! :)
Very simple bolt-ons really wake these cars up and you don't even have to touch the motor! Not to may cars out there that let you do what these cars do for such little money. Mustang and Camaro guys are always talking about rippin' the motor open and installing cams and heads or building a motor.
All you have to do, as long as your stock motor is up to snuff, is upgrade the fuel system and exhaust, run either alky, intercooler, or race gas, and then turn up the boost and you will see high 13's from your fully loaded 3800# 1984 Regal T-Type that no one saw coming!

Thanks for the tips. I'll have the car in a few weeks. Then I'll post pics. I also found a shop here in eastern NC that specializes in Turbo Buicks.

congrats and whats the shop called? also ask lots and lots of question. and before you buy anything stop and support our vendors first. also think what you want 5-10 years down the road with the car. i wish i did as it would have saved $$$$$$
