Ever since my friend sold his 13k mile mint 87 GN, Ive wanted a turbo Regal.. Im now in the market, and it seems that most people want an 87 GN or TType. Why is that? Arent they the same cars? It seems like an 87 TType will get better interest and of course money than a seemingly identical 86. Sames seems to hold true for GNs as well.

Whats the scoop? Educate a newbie

Thanks in advance,
Mike

It's usually just a lack of knowledge buy a so-call car guys. People who don't know much about TR's tend to make assumptions and pass on the false information and it just gets worse. Oh and remember...No T-Types in 87, they are called Turbo T'S.

its a matter of preference

The 86 gn has a chrome strip at the top of the grill & the interior has black interior door strips. The hp rating was supposed to be slightly higher on the 87. The 87 had a complete black grill & the interior strips were gray in color. But as long as its a 86 or 87 its all good. As long as its not a hotair its not gay to me

The t package turbo regals in 86 had a fender badge that said t type. In 87 they dropped the type & put little red T badges lower down on the fender.

All gn's were black & most t's were different colors. The we4 is the blacked out version of the t with all gray interior & black paint with the t wheels which are alluminum not steel. Hope this helps you out.

When you own a T people always ask is it a gn. Then when you tell them no its like a gn they laugh & go oh its slow then. :D

When you own a gn people go oh my cousins friends dad has a special edition fbi twin turbo gnx

That is the low down on these cars IMO

If money isnt an issue by a limited 87 T. Moonroof dark colored paint & you will be  everytime you look at it. Those are so sweet.

Ah, its Turbo T for 87, cool. Thanks for the heads up. A grey Turbo T seems to be my fav so far, The hunt continues...

I will not pay more than fair market value :-) Im watching auctions, looking at past sales here, looking at autotrader and cars.com daily to come up with values. I alredy found 2 NICE grey Ts for ~12-13k.

Correct. I think people refer to the 87 more simply b/c it was the last year for the GN and that's just how people remember them so they look for the 87's.

ks

i believe there were more 87 GNs than all the other years combined, if not there were a lot more. i believe people are always looking for 87s simply because thats what they see the most of. the 87 cliams to have more power, but ive heard is not really true. i prefer the 87 GN because i like the total blackout and no chrome. that being said a good price on an 86 would be just fine. even a nice turbo t or t toye would ok, although i like the GN better, even though i know there no different, the Ts are the rarer car and it would be a real good sleeper becuse most people would write it off as a standard regal. you pull up in a GN and there instantly scared of you.

a lot more, roughly 30-33,000 vs 7000 (?) The advertised horesepower was 10 higher fo 1987, but that was because they underrated the 86. (235 vs 245). Why the 87 is the more desirable probably revolves around that fact.

I have an 86 and when asked about it people are blown away when I tell them it is intercold liked the 87. Most people think that the 87 was the only one that was, when truthfylly the 86 was the first. 86 was so good they had to copy it for 87!

In 87 they dropped the type and put the T because 87 was the only year you could buy the "T" package. Becareful with 87 "T" 's . GM offered the regal limited with the "T" bling but not the motor. They came with the v8 307 Olds terd in them but they were still "T" 's. To get the 3.8 you had to get the turbo package "T". Thats why you need to ask if its a turbo T or just a T. Some people may look at you stupid , but alot of people wont be truthful with you either. Good luck with your search!!

87we4

lets not forget about the we4 package on the 87 turbo tees . 1,547 made.which is faster the 86 or 87. who leaves them totally stock anyway.who wants to get taken out by those 300 horsepower mustangs and 4 cyl. rice . oh no, not I.

i have had 2 86s 1 from new and neither had black pull strips??

I have an 86 and the pulls are black. All 86 were black and 87 were gray. Are you remembering right?

100% so. order special crank windows and no power anything to be extra light. i remember the only differences i could find in my 86 and 87 was with the grill and locks on top the door panel.

There were just over 20,000 made in 87 and just over 5,500 made in 86.

And my 86 has black pull straps and a 87 black out grill  .
