Hi-
My first Buick is Grandma's 88 Regal, which she bought new when my grandfather died. Not a very nice car, but decent daily driver. I've fixed a lot of stuff on the car (head gaskets, injectors, fuel pump, brakes, ICM, coil packs, etc.), but one thing still kicks my a$$. It has this this annoying surge problem like computer is retarding timing, or??? (Did replace the knock sensor.) In warm weather the car runs pretty bad, poor acceleration, more pronounced surging. It runs ok in cooler weather.

It had the same problem about 4 years ago and i replaced the injectors, and it seemed to run much better. Don't want to do that again if it is something else. Checked fuel pressure: 40psi at idle, 45-47 psi WOT, no leak-down over 30-40 minutes.

Any ideas?

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter. It could be picking up something in the tank and causing a stoppage of some sort.

Thanks for the suggestion - i forgot to mention that I changed the fuel filter a couple months ago when the lagging acceleration drivability problem started again. MAF Sensor was replaced with a reman in 2007 - just before the injectors. I currently get an error code for the MAP.

You need to get a scanner and read the raw data to check and see what's going on with it. You may have an electrical issue in the harness.

It turns out that the car performs better with the MAF Sensor disconnected. (although chk engine light comes on) Enough reason to suspect the reman MAF sensor is bad?

i'd go with that hunch- maybe try a junkyard maf sensor before spending the $$$ for a new one.
