Anyone have a running tally of how many Turbo Buicks have dipped in the 9's?

That's only stock blocked 9 second TR's. There are no stage 2 cars on that list.

Kool. Thanx for the link. I'm looking for the total number of cars that have broke into the 9 second zone of the years. It dosent have to be a TSM, TSo, etc.. event.

And it dosent have to be at a sanctioned event either. Was just curious over the years how many cars/drivers have achieved a 9 second pass.

Is it 25, 50, 75.... etc. Im not looking for time slips I was just curious.

That list has 52 cars right now, however some cars are on there twice due to running different combos and setting records. I would say that list has about 48 actual cars on it. Then I know of at least 10 TSO cars not on that list, which makes about 58 total cars. Then add on all the non-tso/tsm cars such as the Gallina car, Anderson's old car, Red Armstong's car, etc., etc....

I would say at least 70 or so, if not way more.

i tried to built mine to go high 9's , maybe when i hit the track this winter we'll find out. i know laz's guy orlando ran 9'70 with a stock block.

Add disco stu to the pile. I have witnessed many consecutive 9.6/9.7 passes from that car, it's insane.

Bones Henderson from Dumas ran a 9.5 in Noble last year, he only spun about 95% of the track too. Stage 2 car.

Mine used to run 9's when it wasn't broke and since it broke in Columbus it is going to sit for a year or more, don't care.

How can you guys not think about Jack Cotton?...He ran a 9.17 @152.62 at E-town, NJ on labor day weekend...(I think his personal best is a 8.88...)

Claude

2 good guys that are not mentioned here are Eric Rankin & Ed Dorey. They did it Many years ago.

That is going to be a long list :) , I have 6 of them here:

Dan B. 109 - 9.80
Jan M. Stage II - 9.60
Ron G. TA - 9.0
Dan W. 109 - 9.80
Quint C. Stage II - 9.20
Nick M. TA - 9.60

Other West coast guys include Len Freeman [in a street legal GN], Jeff Rand, Scott A., Paul H. and a few more that I am missing.

Oh, Larry Gable in NY with a TA engine.

As my brain "recalls" others, will let you know.

don't forget.....

Reggie West, and Nordy racer (mike)

me? I'm just gonna skip the 9's and straight for the 8's LOL

My old Grey car ran one pass in the nines when I owned it. A 9.90 @ 129 blowing up at the GS Nats back in '03. I had my boy Dave Fiscus behind the wheel on that one and only pass. I made 6 passes in the 10.ohs before I sold it. When Avon bought it, he has taken it into the solid mid 8's, and has dipped it into the low 8's with several more mods that what I had done to it. Honestly, over the years, there have been a whole bunch of cars run into the 9's. If I had to guess a number, an honest number, I would say around 300-400 cars easy. You gotta remember, there were guys running 9's back in the early to mid 90's with Stage 2 motors and monster turbos. Not too mention those guys who were running 9's and never even posted about it on any message board. I can remember when running low 10's back in the early 90's was crazy fast. Now, with todays technology, we got guys doing it with simple bolt ons on stock bottom end motors.

The real question should be, how many guys are running low 8's with stock style suspension cars that are still street legal? Then you would get your low numbers.
HTH

I bet the number is phenominal, I tallied up 28 cars that we have built in the past 19 years that have run in the 9's or faster and probably forgot a couple as well. I am sure there are other shops that have produced as many or more! Heck, I have personally owned 4 and built a 9.0 car for my Dad!
