Ive been using a TRX horsepower and 1/4 mile calculator trying to figure out what my white limited will ET with the addition of a TA61 turbo with a garrett exhaust housing. With a supporting lockup convertor and injectors.

Currently my car runs consistant high 11.7 to low 11.8s , with my cars race weight at 3595 the calculator spits out
11.80
432 HP
7.5 1/8TH
115.51 MPH <---- the mph on the calculator has always show a tad more mph than my cars actually mph.

So how much more actual horsepower to expect with this TA61 turbo?

40-50-60 horsepower and 4 tenths off if everything is right?

Anyone running a ta61 turbo these days??

Thanks
BW

I think there would be a Solid 50 - 75 hp gain over the stock turbo on your car at 20+ psi. The stock turbo starts falling off fast & the air gets real hot.

Ive been doing some research through our search section and most people running the turbo varies from low 11s to mid 11s.

One exception is stangbangers 10.66 at 126 at 35psi of boost and a 1.46 sixty foot

Id like to go from the stock turbo at 23psi to this ta61 at 27psi and see how much HP it would gain.

75 hp would be saaaweeeet!

Hello 11.30s???

BW

11.30's at 28-30psi. 11.00's at 26-28 psi with a good fmic or a precision stock location intercooler. 10.90's at 30-32 psi if you can keep the wastegate from opening under the exhaust pressures.

I forgot about Tim running those times with the same turbo. Thanks for the link, i know ive read it 10 times in the past, but totally forgot about it.

Well, i dont want to crank it way up and possibly pop a headgasket.

I am running 110 octane and a splash of methanol on the car, not saying it would be anywhere near as fast as Tims, but if it was able to get it to a easy 11.30 with that turbo, i think i would be happy with it.

Of course getting it closer to a 10.99 with the intake and valve covers never removed is would give me a boner. :o

I recieved a phone call yesterday from the man i purchased this white limited from 5-6 years ago.... Must have talked for an hour on the phone.

Long story short, he was extatic to hear how little miles ive put on the car since ive owned it 6-700 and he wanted to buy it back.... He is 64 years young and purchased the car in 87 with 3,000 miles

I explained him i couldnt part with it, and then told him how well it was running these days. He was floored how well the car is running, and knew i had been taking real good care of it since i purchased it.

Man id really like to get it running even better and keep him up to date on the cars progress.

This was the first ive spoken with him since i purchased the car, really nice guy and a car nut like me.

He currently has the same wheels on his 61 vette as i do on my white limited:biggrin:

I think you'd get a min. 50HP increase with it at 27psi.

Should be a good 40HP from boost alone and some more for efficiency.

And EVERYONE regrets selling these cars.

I wish my cars weighed 3600 race weight.

It was worth adding the turbo to the car.

It boggs a little with the larger turbo and the stock convertor, but im not going to complain one bit.

Bryan,

You are hardcore, I really like how you are doing more with less.
Congratulations on the new passes.

BTW 66.8HP is the answer!!! =)

Thanks man!
Guess it gained nearly 70 horses with the 009s and ta61 turbo, and only adding 4 more psi of boost.
Last weekend the car was only running high 11.8s and low 11.9s at 24psi, so technically speaking its only 3 more pounds of boost, and probably more than 70 horses.

Hopefully 1320video gets some good footage of the event yesterday here in KC. Everyone was going fast.

Looks like i wasnt too far off but i reversed the first two. Should have said 11.30's at 26-28 and 11.00's at 28-30 psi. Nice tuning.

Yeah, i noticed the reversing too, must have made sence to me when i read it back in july LOL...

Man what a blast at the track yesterday.

On friday afternoon, the boost with the heavy duty wastegate LOOOSE would throw the boost all the way to 30psi. The RJC was as loose as possible.

I ended up turning the heavy duty acutator out so far, it was pushing the puck open and wouldnt spool.

So friday night i installed a factory adjustable acutator, 4-6 turns in and the boost was rock solid with the convertor UNLOCKED.

My first pass saturday morning was a 11.49 at 117.7 UNLOCKED.
Locked the convertor and the boost dropped from 22psi, all the way down to 15psi then took a few seconds to come back up... 11.73 at 114???

Turned the wastegate actuator in 3 turns, started coming back around with a 11.52 at 118.5 at 19psi most of the run, peaked 23 on the top end.

Turned the RJC valve in 3-4 more turns, then the boost started staying rock solid.
Went from the 11.52 pass down to a 11.29 pass, figured out the launch technique and 11.29 was the worst pass after i needed to do the 2-3 shift manually.

Car still bogs with the alky kit spraying the m-10 fitting on the launch, those launches felt soft for 5-10 feet, then the boost would come on

Im thinking if i can put a momentary switch to shut off the meth during the launch, i might try it just to get the boost to come on quicker.
It should 60' better.

Next is valve springs and ported lower intake.

The cut in point could be made adjustable with an adjustable Hobbs switch. The one in my sig is on at 12 psi and doesnt bog unless you try and leave at 12 psi or more. But it does go overly rich for a second. Im switching to alkycontrol this week. Pump has way more nut and more adjustabilty than the one im currently using. Cut in point is easily adjusted and the pump speed is much easier controlled on the alkycontrol. My DIY has proven reliable though. Ive had it for 10 years and smoked many unsuspecting racers with it and 93 octane. It allowed me to take the 42.5lb/hr injectors to 124+mph a few years back. I was adding a lot of meth though. It probably wouldnt have gone over 118mph without the meth injection.

How is normal driving with the TA61 and stock converter? Was it hard trying to hold the car back at the line? Was there alot of lag?Just curious because I want to go from my ta49 to ta61 with out changing converter.Great passes!!

Yeah, thats the problem, im trying to launch WOT at 13-14psi and the old style SMC kit knob is turned all the way up. I could put a hobbs switch in it, but i didnt think i was going to even get the boost up to 14 psi using just the brake pedal.

My meth kit consists of a hago m-10, -3 line, stock overflow bottle, shureflow 60psi pump, and a non progressive smc controller. All those parts are something i had laying around in the garage cabinets from other projects.
I litterally spent 3 dollars for a few fitting and the kit has been working flawless for over a year.

Id buy a Julio kit if i was going solely on meth, but have used 1/4 of one gallon of meth in 25 passes.

Here is the picture of how little ive used TurboTweak Forum

I dont know how it would do with a GT 6152 with the larger exhaust housing, mine is a TA 61 and has the garret exhaust housing that spools up alot quicker than my 44 did with the precision housing.

Normal driving from a dead idle, boost does come up quick probably just like your 49.
I am also running a RJC boost controller, i think that helps spoolup too.

My car is a freak of nature with its brakes, it has a reman powermaster on it, and with the stock turbo, if wanted, i could hold almost 20 psi and the car wouldnt budge.

Now with the ta61, it takes about 5 seconds to go from idle to 14psi of boost for the launch with the stock convertor and stock adjustable wastegate actuator.
If you have a ta49 with the precision housing, i dont think you would notice any more lag with the 61.
