Got a lot done today, can't wait to finish it up tomorrow. No major hiccups today, which was A.O.K with me, but sometimes I felt like I was putting together a jigsaw puzzle without a picture of the puzzle, LOL. Obviously I just threw a few parts on for the picture, but I'm digging the look so far.

The A/C was a real pain in the kiester, I didn't think it would be so I was surprised by that.

The oil pan gasket I bought from Postons was the wrong one, I'm guessing it was a gasket for a 3800SC because it wasn't a 14 or 20 bolt TR gasket, the front matched up and then it tapered way in on the rear.

So I bought a Fel-Pro from AutoZone, not my first choice but as long as I do it right it should be fine.

I was pleasantly surprised with how clean the internals of the engine were, I bought this as a 50,000 mile long block from Bweavy, all the bolts were bagged and labeled, but since I didn't take them off it led me to looking at a lot of pictures on this site and a lot of reference parts drawings I have, but so far so good.

sounds like everything is going well for you. i cant view your pics but good luck with everything.

I ran into a board member while grabbing food today, he saw me checking on my new oil pan gasket while waiting for my Outback food to arrive and he asked "what's it for?" and when I said a GN he said he had one too. So that was pretty cool. IronEagle119 was his handle, he has a yellow 87 GN, one of the 3 (including mine) in our city. Vic Guilmino got rid of his so that just leaves me and him and some other guy I rarely see around.

Anyone know if this rubber Fel Pro is worth a doody? Should I just wait and order a Duttwieler from Kirbans and install it in a few days?

Once I get the TA-49 I'll powdercoat it to match the rest of the parts, and I plan on getting it soon. I'm also on the lookout for an inexpensive turbo shield and having the TNX logo cut into it in GNX fashion.

I have a stock turbo shield in decent shape if your interested.

As for the rubber oil pan gasket, it will work fine, just make sure all surfaces are super clean when installing of course and dont over tighten the bolts as the rubber gasket will crush and push out fairly easily.

I'll send you a PM. ;)

That thing is NEVER gonna run right. Its TO CLEAN.

I also may have sealed it up too well, if it doesn't leak how will I know it has oil in there? :D

If I were you and while the engine is still on the stand, I'll junk that Fel-Pro oil pan gasket and get the thick cork one from RJC or Kirban.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking too, If Kirbans has them in stock it should only take a day to get it to my house. Peace of mind is priceless.

I guess it’s just me but avoid any cork gaskets like disease, I never ever had any look with them in any type of car or location.
Any sorry for the HJ

BTW in case I forgot
That thing looks great.

I went with an RJC cork gasket

i hate cork as well but the RJC gasket has worked for me. its the first cork gasket that i have used that works.

Cork or plastic, you guys RTVing them? If I go the felpro route I am installing it sans RTV, if I go the cork route I am going to RTV it. I'll decide which way I'm going in about 4 hours. :o

i have never used RTV on my gasket but i know alot of people do. the only area's i rtv is the 2 pots by the rear main and the 2 spots by the front cover.
