Well I proceed to change the oil in the TTA,there was a small filter just like in the pic,,well i know I have a center link problem, someone jacketed the car up from the center link(still drives straight),so I have a hump in my centerlink... but I decide to use a Napa Gold bigger filter i think a 1026.. and never thought to check the pitmarm clearance(i think pitman arm)..last night i made a hard left, never heard any sounds of banging, good thing i was on my way home since the bolt in the pic just smashed a hole in the filter ,nice trail of oil for 5blcks right up my drive way...guess i need to address the steering ...
Picture a longer filter where the STP filter is --ouch...

Damn, you need to sort that pitman arm issue ASAP. I run the standard NAPA Gold (is it 1026?) (its about as long as the STP in your picture) and I got plenty of clearence so yours must be really bent.

When I use a original Delco 1218 filter (the old long style) I still have enough clearence but it's tight hence me running the shorter NAPA filter to be on the safe side.

Jan,I am pretty sure i used the Napa Gold 1036 filter, which is about 1.5 in longer than the shorty in the pic..gonna be ordering all new steering parts soon...I have an oil trail for close to a mile,i followed it back to see wheree it happened,i was making a u turn(hard left),,the bad thing is that the pitman arm took a nice chunk out of the underside of the filter, which was spaying directly to the pavement, nothing to tell me it was spraying, like if was to hit the headers,i would have noticed it...when i pulled into the driveway,,i was like "Fck now what"...:(

DId you loose oilpressure at all? If the pressure drops too much it should shut the fuel pump down automaticly so if that did not happen they your engine should be fine I hope.

Also take a look at the oil cooler adapter and setup so it did not push that back or bent it in anyway or it might crack or develop a leak where it all kind of sandwich together (oil cooler setup that is) also I would check the oil pump housing as well just to make sure you did not stress any of those areas when the oilfilter got hit (luckily the oil filter is soft so you should be fine).

The shorter Napa filter works fine and a lot of people use that or the K&N that is similar size that way always have plenty of clearence just in case.

Hope you get it all together and nothing major happened.
