I recently asked about the performance of a te44, a ton of guys gave their et's and mph. I think the 44 is too small.

So if you run a TE45 or TE45a or even something similar, I would greatly appreciate your helpful info. Either ET's or MPH would be fine, Thanks again Guys!
 
The 45's (same as a 63) will take you to mid-low 10's.


A 44 and a 45 are a HUGE difference. What are your goals? If you are shooting for 10's the 45 will work great. There are a lot of guys going 11's on a 44 or 49, and mid-low 11's with the 50 series turbos.
 
Too many 44's and 49's out running 50 series turbos, I've honestly heard to many unsuccessful stories of mostly all the 50 series turbos with the exception of a few. Possibly combo or tuning reasons. Definately 60 series and up here! Thanks
 
my gn has a 44 it would go 11.60 with blue tops that time in my sig is with a stock IC.Ihave a v 4 on it now .my t type has a 45a its goin to go a 10.50 or maybe a 40 something when i get it sorted out.big diff in those 2 turbos. i like the 44 on the street it is instant on
 
The older TA45's were a 63mm compressor wheel (if memory serves me correctly) which would be the same as the TE63 as sold by Precision. The new TA45a's are a 66mm compressor wheel. Big difference in power!
To fully utilize the potential of this turbo you will need 55lb injectors at the bare minimum. You might even want to go 72's.
You will also need ported heads, cam, etc. This is a solid 10 second turbo, but you will be running 25+ lbs of boost to achieve that. You will also need a 3500+ stall convertor.
Some of the guys I have spoken too recommend the .82 turbine housing as well since it seems to be good for another 2-3 mph in the quarter.
I have a TA45a on my own car and love it, but you do need a lot of supporting hardware to go with it.
The reason why many go with the TE44 or TA49 is that they seem to work great with stock heads, cams, convertors and more modestly sized injectors. To get 125 mph+ trap speeds as you mentioned in a previous thread, you will be spending some loot. Besides the fact that at that ET level with the 25+ pounds of boost, you will want to girdle/cap the short block as well as several other mod's if you dont want to scatter it all over the pavement.
Another option would be a TE70 as you can run atleast the same ET's/mph at lower boost levels, but you will also need more convertor. Geno went 9.90's with his 70. I know Reddshotair loves his 70 as well. Maybe some of them will chime in.
 
i run a te45a and i havent really tested it out yet but i can say that i run high 11's on the street with 93 (no alky) and a Red A street chip in. With a TE45a and Maxeffort 16pos with 55's you can go high 10's with that turbo and only like 19-20 psi. My stall is only 3200 also and i pull 1.58 on 26x10s that spin bad out the hole. Convertor is a 9x11 from Bruce, the tranny just went south though, so i'm gonna loosen the stall to 3500 just for the heck of it.
 
if you have the proper setup with a 45A, anything over 25 lbs will put your stock block in danger.....I usually run 23 lbs and make 600+ flywheel hp....the turbo would be good to prolly 30 lbs, but your motor prolly wouldn't

as stated, to effectively use a TE-45 you need ported heads, cam, I/C, exhaust, fuel (55's or bigger), 3500 stall converter and suspension and traction to handle big boost launches

talk to John Craig about your goals and combo, he will recommend what is right
 
I'm currently running a TE-45a on my T and I love it. And I dont care what others say but it runs awesome with a BONE STOCK LONG BLOCK! I also have 55# injectors, and a 3500 n/l tranny. It spools great on the street even with a .82 housing. It ran like crap before, when I was running an Armstrong chip. But a conversation with Jim Testa turned out to be the best thing I ever did. IT's all about the chip programming IMO. Thanks again Jim! This car scares the sh!t out of me. :D
 
I agree with GNVAIR .Great turbos but you got to send money to make them work.I bought one last year and still tuning and spending cash.3200 prec vig stall. cas front mount 75 lbs injectors double fuel pump,trans plus direct scan, lap top.ecmfor the new injectors volt booster, THDP=11.88 at 117 2.10 a dog off the line at 20lbs boost.now I just put heads ,ported intake cam and learn how to tune on the trans plusBut I think I,m almost there and now hopefully do a low 11 or high 10.(safely)
Now my friend has a te44 3200 stall stretch intercooler 009's a 340 fuel pump and one of my 108 reds chips and went11.46 at 116mph.Man was I pissed.Just kidding Craig
 
its all about combination......put a bigass turbo on a car that can't breath and rev, and you'll have a slow car

Its all well and good Jim, but have you had it to the track yet?
It might feel fast, but as azgn said, putting a big turbo on an engine that doesnt breathe doesnt make a car fast. You got to have the supporting hardware for it.

I havent been to the track with this new chip as of yet, But i can assure you that this new chip in street trim with 17 psi, feels a hell of alot stronger than my reds 107 with 22 psi ever did.
Opinions are like a$$holes, everyones got one. IMO
 
We used a TE-64 for a while, which I believe is very comparable in size to the TE-45. Like many before me have said, your gonna need a loose converter, decent size cam, and some free flowing heads. We turned a 10.75 last year when we were still using the stock block with the 64, 72# injectors, home ported iron heads and 26-28 psi. But like what Woody said before, this kind of power will put the stock block in danger
