First of all: YES I did a search.
Second: I'm still confused as to what works and what doesn't.

So, here I am with a dead stock alternator (120amps?) and the car's been down for the better part of two weeks.

I've read that the 200 amp kit is an option or possibly an alt from a 95/96 SS Impala (140 amps?)

What's the scoop? Can anyone provide a comprehensive list of alt's that work/fit the GN and their corresponding amps? Also, if anyone has it off the top of their heads, what one should expect to be paying for said units?

I'm merely looking for an upgrade that will support future electronics if I so choose to install such items.

TIA

Why even consider another alt...get the upgrade kit...what it is $79...and be done with it...no worries about what alt will fit...it's extremely easy to rebuild...there's a document...have to find it that has a step by step with detailed pictures on how to rebuild it...the alt I rebuilt with the 200 amp kit is on my race car...normally see 13.5-14 volts...that should be plenty for your needs...

Funny you mention the kit. I did order it almost 2 weeks ago but it has yet to arrive. I'm currently in negotiations with Mr. Savino but I fear that the undue delay will result in my cancelling the order and searching for an alternative resource.

Thus, I'm forced to consider other options. I need to get this car back on the road asap!

Kirban sells one for about $150 - it is a new 120 amp unit, a direct replacement and the quality seems to be very good. I put one on last summer and was happy with the result.

I wanted to upgrade so I'll skip on the 120 amp for now.

As for the Impala one (140 amp) , It's $206 + $20 Core and it must be special ordered (it does, however carry a lifetime warranty) -from Autozone

Also, I called a local rebuilder and he wants like $250 to rebuild mine into a 200 amp and about $150 to make it 140 amp.

Summit does have a 140 and 200 amp option, They want $329.95 for the 140 amp and $359.95 for the 200 amp one ( that's not even going into the chrome!!

I also contacted Motocity and they want $219.99 + shipping for a 200 amp unit.

Can anyone point me to reasonable (ie: cheap) and reliebale source here in SoCal or an alternate mail order source?

btw, POWDER, where did you get your rebuild and was it to stock specs??

Thanks for the input
