Ive got an opportunity to trade my POS lincoln mark VIII for a 1986 or 87 k5. its supposed to have a 350ci with a 3" exhaust, new tires, and some other goodies.

how good are they? yea its a gas hog I can imagine, but I fit in it and I can probably haul my car around in it.

tell me about it if you own one.

I had one back in the day. I love the way they drive. Very smooth especially with larger tires. If it is an 87 it is throttle body injected. 86 and older was quadrajet carbed. FI gives a little better milage but they are all gas hogs.;) Will make a good tow rig.

88 GMC Jimmy

I've owned my "K5" for over 8 yrs now. This truck has brought me from San Diego, CA to Virginia Beach, VA. I love it! When it comes to 4x4ing, it's tons of fun.. Here are some pics of mine, she's my daily driver. I'd go for the trade if I were you. They are easy to work on and tons of fun..

If it is in good shape it will bring good money...

Should be a huge trade up for you!!

Good luck!

tons of parts available used or reproduction out there for these trucks. they have a huge following.parts are often cheap too! i have 3 duallies this body style that i haved towed with in the past.if your blazer has a 305 a 350 is a direct swap in.just check for rot. out here the bottoms of the doors rot out.bottom of the tailgates rot out, underneath the truck where the tailgate goes on the rot out, floors rot out, front inner fenders rot out,cab corners too! i believe you are in california so you probably wont have all the rot issues but check anyway! get rid of the ford and get another gm in your fleet !

x2 on the rust! I had a 86 k5 with a 305 and it had no problem towing my 3600lb camaro. if its clean I would say go for it.:)

those style have the removeable cap right?

one just went on barrett jackson yesterday..two tone green.. it was a 6.2 diesel with 15k on it.. sold for about 7,000

i doubt this one has a removable top. it is brown with a tan interior, and is pretty much stock exept the exhaust system.

They all came with removable tops in those years!!! The only diffrences i know of is wether or not the tops rear windows are sliders or fixed windows

From 69' to 75 they were all Fullverts. Meaning that the entire top from the front windshield to the tail gate would be removed. From 76-91 they were halfverts. Tops went frm the doors to the tailgate.

Hey bro, you can go the ArizonaK5 website and get all kinds of info concerning these trucks.. I'm a member there as well with the same login name.

I have an 85 K20...parts are easy to find and usually cheap. I picked up a lift kit for it last fall for $50 (leafs & blocks). Go for the K5 if its in decent shape.

I have a slew of squarebodies over here. Actually build a 74 Jimmy now. Great trucks. I have had a few marks as well. I don't think you will be disappointed. Parts are plentiful, repair is easy, insurance is cheap. Let us know if you end up getting the deal done.

okay, it doesnt have a 350, got a 305. walk away???

I'd still get it, swapping over to a 350 sbc or even a 400 sbc is easy...you can reuse the trans and stuff like the intake, exhaust, etc. off the 305 can be reused if desired. Meaning if you're on a budget, a crate long block would suffice.

My old 72 Shane may remember seeing this one around town when I lived in Gvegas
