Here is my update from the weekend as I finally recover from the 13.5 hour drive home.
We got to the track Friday before noon. Our first pass off the trailer was a 9.46. The AMS 1000 is working fantastically. The car left really nice with a small wheelie. (Cal Have I mentioned I love this boost controller?) I was thinking this was going to be a good weekend. Things were real relaxed and Cal had time to work on the XFI for me. He made some serious improvements in the amount of time it takes for the car to come up on the pipe. As things turned out we only got to make two passes at silver dollar race way. The car hooked hard and Toni blew the ring and pinion up in the rear end. I wanted to puke as the sound of metal exploding and grinding bounced off my ears.
We got the car back to the trailer. Next Cal Hartline tells me he has a set of gears in his trailer. Dick Kerney has all the tools to set the rear end up in his trailer. Dick tells me to bring my car around to his trailer and he will move his car out of the way. Then Otto and James Lester (Dick Kerney’s trunk monkey) start tearing into it. Everything is happening so fast, next thing I know Otto has the new ring & pinion set up. I learned some tricks to getting a pinion bearing off. We tore the pinion seal, but I was at Napa in the morning right when they opened and they had it!!
Now I realize why every one says Dick is a great guy. He made everything in his trailer available to me. Kerney probably has no idea how much I appreciate him doing that for me.
I need to thank James and Otto for helping me. When the weather was getting cold and everyone else was drinking and mawing down steaks, these guys were busting there ass on my wife’s car. Also thanks to Cal for hooking me up with a gear set. This kept my hopes alive that we would get to run in the morning. Cal let me know how much money I owe you for the gears.
