Well today was the day that changed everything. I just purchased a Stage V (5) from Cottons. I was actually too excited to ask or realize what was happening (dont want to call back and bother him). Whats the HP rating and is it BB? Anyone using it. I know its too late but I trust Cottons but just forgot the details. Any input appreciated.. TIA...

I have a Stage 3 Cheetah on my Limited (009s, some chip:D , THDP, Dutt necked IC) and I really like it- pulls strong with the stock converter, and spools like a stocker........

Spools like a stocker.... what does that mean? Slow, fast, ok?? Never driven a stocker. b4.. lil more xplanation.. TIA

Comes up on boost insanely fast. I have a PT-54 on my GN with a 3400 Pat's non-LU converter, and it spools pretty good; the Cheetah comes up on boost way faster, but it runs out of breath faster than the -54.

That Stage V is gonna need a lot more converter that the D5.......

Im sorry if im being a PIA but this should be the last question, with 3"dp larger IC and a 3k stall, what times are expected w a decent 60' boost as of now wont exceed street trim 15-17#. ? i would like a solid 11 sec car w no Alky. Am I pipe dreaming? Im happy im gettin a new turbo and if its and 11 secer its a bonus... thanks again ou guys have been helpful..

You'll have to push the turbo harder than that to get into the 11s. @ 15-17 psi on an otherwise stock car, look to be in the hi/mid 12s at best. Add the DP and converter, some Mototron 60 injectors, race gas, and 25 psi, and you're in the 11s.

Good luck!

te 62 vs. te 64-1

can anybody tell me what the diff. between the two are i took off the te 62 and put a te 64 -1 both have .63

Solid 11's wont happen a 15-17#. Be happy if it breaks into the 12's.

This may sound like a fantasy...but the story is true.

My first T-type I had I bought in 1992(high mile car at that time). It was in pretty bad shape when I bought it. Now... I went from small block chevys to turbo regals and I didnt have a clue.
These cars were a mystery. I just started reading magazine articles and threw on a ta-49 turbo, 36lb inj, art carr 9" converter, red armstrong street chip, 160 thermostat, gutted the cat and put a TH 3" DP. With no and I mean NO tuning abilty with these cars I would run 12.1@ 106 mph all day long at 19#'s boost on pump gas.

I could 60ft high 1.5's with bone stock suspension. I attribute the launches to the worn out suspension:biggrin: and loose converter(which would be indicative of the low MPH)

I look back now and I guess this car was a freak. I could have had Knock retard all day long and I didnt know it. I guess ignorance was bliss back then.

I believe it 87NAT and here's why.
Back then, 93 octane gas was much better and more tollerant of knock retard than todays watered down 93 that we get. My best friend was running around on 23#s on a 60-1 T4 turbo with a DFI and 93 octane all the time without knock. His timing was set at 18* WOT in all gears. Witnessed it on many a night at the street races. Gas was good back then. Gas sucks today.

With todays turbo choices here are some items of interest that I have kept too memory.
If wanting 11's on low boost with a simple bolt on car, meaning stock bottom end, ported heads or aluminum heads out of the box, cam, ported intake, headers, downpipe, IC upgrade, and complete fuel system, you would need to run either a 67mm compressor wheel equipped turbo, or a 70mm compressor equipped turbo. There are guys out there who are doing this with a 67 P-trim turbo and with a 70 P-trim turbo. The converter has to be right, as well as suspension mods to be able to launch really hard if you limit yourself to low boost. By low I mean 17-19psi. The lower you run the boost, the more reliant you are on 60ft, in order to reach 11's. 59mm thru 61mm compressor wheels are typically mid 12 to low 12s on 15-17psi of boost. I'm sure there are some out there that have run 11.90s with a T63E running lower than 20psi on pump gas, heck, I did it myself with my old Limited back in '98, but you need to launch the car hard. It will be very hard to reach that level with a smaller turbo and only 17psi, unless of course the car is a super light weight and hooked like crazy. (IE: 3300# with driver and can deliver reliable 1.6x 60ft times.) 59mm through 61mm compressor wheel equipped turbos are good for 12's on pump gas boost levels. Throw alky into the equation so that you can turn the boost up to maximum limits, and up the timing, and then you start to get into the 11's with ease. Remember, traction and a good 60ft are the keys to successful low ets. More boost, higher octane and timing are keys to higher mph (IE: Horsepower).
One last thing to remember, when you start running larger compressor wheel equipped turbos, the charge temps are typically cooler at lower boost levels, however, there is a trade off, the cfm flow rating might not be very much higher than the smaller compressor wheel equipped turbos at the same boost level, so it's important to do your homework, before jumping into a super humongous turbo. I really like the 67 turbo and in my honest opinion, those who are looking to run mid to low 11's without having to max out a turbo will eventually fall in love with it as well. I can't wait to get mine installed this weekend and have some fun. ;)
Hope some of this helps a little.

the biginning..

Well, it all strated w my rebuild from Limit. The stock ebuild had play in the wheel so i wanted to send it back. I was already fed u at this point w Limit so I wanted a refund. Im still waiting for UPS to pick it up but i decided t go w the 6131 bb. I called Cottons and he said I was better off w a Turbonetics Stage V. rOom to grow w performance. Timeslips arent that importan (but cool), drivability is first bc use the car everyday. He said this was the way to go, who am I to argue.

With the stock converter I would have gone with the 6131 BB, I don't like alot of lag off the line.
