Just wondering if anyone is planning on going to Keystone this coming Saturday? It's getting towards the end of the season and I've been dying to take my car up there and see what it'll do. Was hoping to meet up with someone who could give me some pointers, etc. (Never been to a strip before  ).

Anything I need to know before I head up? Do I need a helmet? (I have one, but wasn't sure if you need one to run) Does the car need anything special?

If you run a 13.99 or better you need a helmet. The right lane has a hump in the middle of the track, its hard to see but its there. If you can , get the left lane. They sell food there, but its kinda pricy. We take a little grill and cook burgers and stuff. Its cheeper. Its a nice track, just be prepared for all the imports that show up.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind imports, I like all cars, really...

But PLEASE don't tell me that there are a bunch of sideways hat wearing, posturing, Pinks style nonsense, trash talking as they lean on their purple and yellow Civics with a picnic table wing, look at my Nawssss idiots that there...

If that's the norm, I'll be there once, and once only. I really can't stomach that sh*t. :(

It depends when you go. I'm not sure what its like since the schedule has changed. Fri use to be import night. Thats when the smack talking started. Sat use to be race day. Now Sat. is TNT and I haven't been there yet. Sun. is race day now, so all the racers for Sun may go Sat just to get a good tune before race day. Alot of nice cars run up there.

Would they still do the test n' tune on Sunday or just racing with different classes? . I just want to do a few runs, I have no class :D

Let's try this again, I guess tomorrow is officially the last day, and the weather is looking great for the weekend. I'm gonna see if my dad wants to go up with me. If you're there, look for this car and the clueless noob behind the wheel :D

PRP on the 25th....

The weather has been crap lately. Just wondering if any of you are heading to Keystone (PRP still does not dound right) tomorrow, 11/25?

86gngirl, are you sure about 13.99 for a helmet? I was running 13.00's and no one ever said I needed a helmet. I heard less than 12.99. My last run there was a 12.7 and no one said anything. Of course I left immediately after the run.

GH

Yes, I'm sure of the 13.99 need a helmet rule. I have seen them kick people out if they dont have a helmet. You can call up there and ask for Pam, she would be able to fill you in on the track rules.

Well, first time ever at a track and had a blast! Got 3 runs in and got better every time. Definitely hooked, can't wait to go back next year...

First run was a 14.02 at 97.78 :(
second was a 13.82 at 99.85 (Passed up a new Charger that left .5 seconds ahead of me. He ran 14.68 at 95.24.. That was cool :D )
the last was 13.63 at 100.53, with a 2.209 60' and a 8.796 at 81.5 1/8 mile...

I could tell the car was spinning, all I have a 265/50 Pep Boys specials on the back. I'm sure if I got more traction it would have been a little better (No sh*t, huh?)

BTW, I asked one of the track guys about the helmet because I forgot what 86GNGirl said, and he said the same thing, 13.99, but he said it was up to me whether I wanted to wear it or not if my times were "near" that. Nice to meet you, gearhead :D

I'm glad you had a good time. Next time you go, let me know. I have a set of DOT drag radials You could have used. I have them mounted on a set of GN wheels so you just have to swap the wheels/tires at the track. I had problems hookin up to in my GN so I bought the drags and hook real nice now. If they work good for you, then you know to save up for a set. Let me know and glad to hear you had fun.

Last runs of the year at PRP....

First, cool meeting you Welby. You have a really clean TType! Glad you had fun, that is what it is all about. Your reaction times got much better, was that because of my little tip? Get BF Goodrich Drag Radials.

Boostjunkie, is that you Shawn? Forgot to ask you at the track if you were boosjunkie.

86gngirl, are you boostjunkies sister? Didn't catch your name. Cool to see girls running 11.7's in GN's.  My buddy running a TA said he thought it was 13.00 & faster needed a helmet also. But as soon as I got there I heard the anouncement for 13.99 & quicker needed a helmet. Luckily my neighbor hooked me up with a helmet just before I left. Wonder why they never said anything to me before?

First time ever got in 5 runs in one day! Bummer I could not fill up with Turbo Blue before racing. I pulled 4 lbs of boost out (back to stock length for wastegate arm) after the first run and still got some knock. Now for my question, did I do any damage to my car and how much? See info below:

Basically stock 'cept for Caspers Thumbwheel chip, adjustable wastegate arm, Walbro fuel pump, adj. fuel regulator set at 44 PSI, fresh air intake and catless exhaust. Runs were made with Caspers chip in 6 or 7 posiiton and adjustable wastegate set to stock length after 1st run (or 1/2 turn longer for the 5th run) running about 17 to 18 lbs. of boost.

1st run - 35 knock counts and I let up shortly after half track 14.124 @ 87 MPH & 60' of 2.39. Forgot to set things back to the 93 octane settings.

2nd run - 17 knock counts, kept in it the whole way, 12.874 @ 103.81 & 60' of 1.821. Back to 93 octane settings, never had knock with these settings before.

3rd run - got up to 20 knock counts & let up somewhere after half track, 13.002 @ 103.6 MPH & 60' of 1.903

4th run - same as 3rd run, 13.116 @ 103.29 & 60' of 1.971

5th run - Pulled out another 1/2 lb. boost but did not get knock readings since my laptop battery went dead. :frown: Never got 5 runs in before....:D 12.700 @ 104 MPH & 60' of 1.793.

Was I crazy to keep trying? Since I drove it home with no problems I suspect any damage is minimal. This was the first time racing that I ever got knock. Kinda baffled me since I ran with 93 octane before with the same settings as I ran today. Don't flame me too bad if I was really stupid today, but I would appreciate some honest opinions.

My name is Stacie, no relation to Shawn. I'm running 12.80 right now, but the new turbo and injectors are waiting to go on for next year. I'm out in the North Hills area. The Drag Radials I have are BFG's, I guess I should have mentioned that.
Welby,I should also mention the airbag in the rear spring, bid help for the traction issues you have. But the BFG's are here if you want to try them.

Stacie what is your combo? How many miles are on your car now?

I wish I could have made it, but I had to work 3-11.:(

I'm still trying for that 10.99:biggrin:

PRP on the 25th....

86gngirl, too bad you couldn't make it, conditions were good but the track was not hooking well at all. You can tell by my 1st run. Maybe next year.....

There were 2 silver/gray T's, 1 white T & 2 GN's at the track. Got to talk with everyone but the owner of the white T. Maybe we should "swarm" the track next year and get as many turbo Regals at PRP on one day?

GH

The car now has 11,560 miles on it. I'm putting a TA49 on and 41lb injectors and I think a 101 chip. It leans out real bad at the end of the track with the combo now, still pretty much stock. Only does it about 10 foot from the end. Thats all thats getting done to this one. I have another car we are going to start building. Hopeing for low 10's or high 9's out of this one. It wont be done for a year or so, unless I hit the lottery. How is your car running John?

Wish I could have made it to the track, but things just didn't work out that way. We had a new motor to test on my sons JR., but just couldn't get there.

I only had it to the track once this year. It went 11.36 @ 121 with poor traction. So it's running good. What is the other car your building? I also sent you a pm.

John

GNGirl, thanks for the offer to use your tires, I appreciate it. I have a feeling I'm going to get addicted, so I'll probably just look for some better tires later on next summer, lol.. My car was sitting real high in the back (you can kind of tell in the pic that I posted) and it annoyed me, so I went to Sechrist Auto 2 weekends ago and found some mid-80's Firebird coils for $20 that I put on. It sits alot better now, but screws me up for running an airbag. But I already have one that I was using with the stock coils. I'm leaving the air line as it is, so if need be, I can throw the other coils and bag in at any time, heck it's only a 25 minute job :)

Your car does not look bad at all the way it sits. Was the air bag was in the coils in that pic? That may be why it sits a little higher in the back. Are your rear tires the same size as the front? My airbag makes my car sit higher in the back even with just a little bit of air.

BTW I love your wheels!
