Anyone using the Nitto nt555 r drag radial?

i called for pricing on Mickey Thompson et radials the other day and almost hit the floor when my guy told me $225 a tire. i bought them 2 years ago and they were $160 each. i found these Nittos and wondering if and how they hook before i consider buying them. i've dropped damn near 10 grand into this black hole in the last 5 months, and i was running low on funds 4 months ago!!

Mickeys have way better dry traction, will scare you in the rain the nittos not as good dry traction, scare you less in the rain, last a lot longer

I hear the NT555s are pretty safe on the street. Just don't hook as well. No experience here, but the Nitto Nt05's will be my next rear tire.

Nittos are not even in close to being as good as the Mickey Thompson. MT's are much more like a slick compound.

I've been using the Nitto's for a while now (on my second set) and Like them. I don't know how they are in rain though. I'm actually selling them along with the GNX style wheels if interested. The fronts are new, one back is new, and the other back is like new.

I'm running a Nitto 555R, 275/60/15. It works well, I don't race my car at the track but it hooks good on the street. I have a trans brake and 5lbs launches are possible with them. Prior to the Nittos I had E/T streets 275/50/15, they did hook a bit better, but spun after 60 or so feet into it. I find the Nitto's ride much better but I did go with a taller tire. They are wearing pretty well too. Bought them from Discount tire direct. They are 163$ each today. I'm happy for what I use them for.

I've run Nitto 555 for years & like them on the street. I'd like to get better mileage out of them, however, mileage wise, they are probably the best DR's.
I tried 295x50 Proxes & took them off first time I hit a sprinkle (light rain) - Nitto's are cheaper than fenders, 720* spin on a crowded highway got my attention.
I'm aware of many other DRs that are better on dry pavement, however, a DD requires occasional rain.

I've been running Nitto 555r's on my buick since last spring. 275-60 15s. At Pittsburgh Raceway, best I've been able to get is a 1.74 sixty foot last summer pretty consistant. Couldnt really figure out how to get it to sixty any faster in the few trips I made last year. Too much boost and the nittos would just spin with their track prep. Less and I would get 1.8x

I've had a best 60' of 1.61 on MT ET Streets off the foot brake and if I can't get that out of another DR than there is no comparison or option to buy. Changing tires is easy. Get a pair of cheap extra rims. Use a racing tire to race and a street tire on the street. I'm not letting a little rain stop me from driving my fun car...

That is true. I use the Nittos for in the city, and MT's for the track. I use to go through a set a year of the BF drag radials before I discovered the Nittos.
