I have 2 cars with bad converters. It took me forever to figure it out but every time the cars start making power the converters slip. I know this because when i look at the data log they both stay on the rev limiter. oh yeah both cars have girdled stock blocks, one has diamond pistons the other has je's one has a cpt65 the other has a t66, both rollers, both champion aluminum heads, should i try to have my converters rebuilt or buy new, I'm so tired of spending money. I drove both cars one time last year. any suggestions on what to do?

don,t know, I bought 1 from jack cotton in 2002 and it probably has 5000 miles on it. The other one was in the car when I bought it

Real Art-Carr (california)

I'm using a 9" Non-lockup (N stall) 3800 converter. and i love it! It used to be a 3200-3400 and i sent it off to Art and had it re-stalled to a 3800. I think sending your converters to the people who built them and have them re-stall them. I think that would be the cheaper route. I'm sure there is someone here who can chime in and give there oppinion if it should be re-stalled tighter or more loose. Scot w.

I have a 9'' Art Carr AKA "California Performance Trans" Converter that was in my car when I had the Len Freeman 200 in it 1yr ago. It was a 3200 stall. I bought a Len Freeman TH400 and sent the converter back to Art for a bigger shaft and to raise the stall to 3500. All for $200 :D It works Awesome. I just wish I had a lock up.

The problem you are having is common when you use an old converter that was behind an engine making 150 ft lbs less torque. Chances are the engine is making a lot more torque now than back in 2000. The more torque and taller the gearing the more you will drive through the converter. Send it back for a tightening and explain that your converter is not coupling on the top end. It will be the cheapest fix. Those 9" non locking AC converters work very well. I have about five different ones that i use myself and they all do what there supposed to when behind the engine there supposed to be.

talk to art carr and see if a restall can't remedy the problem ....instead of just throwing money away.... or there are others you can talk too, i would recommend len freeman performance trans las vegas or jack at precision tech both are knowledgable and can help you in your converter problem or selection

I have a REAL art carr & love it. Call Art himself like they said. Give him the numbers off the convertors & he will tell you if they are his or not. I think his number is 1-800-art carr.
