Had to go to Lake City From Gainesville and back, about a 100 miles round trip, yesterday. Let my 15 year old son who has had his learner's permit for about four months now drive the Turbo for the first time. We took back two lane roads so he would not have the traffic of I-75 to deal with.
He's been really good with the Caddy and the Van so I thought I'd make his day. I ask him if he wants to drive to Lake City and back and he says OK. He grabs the keys to the van and heads out the door. I call him back and hand him the keys to the Turbo and ask for the van keys back and hang them up.
The grin was worth it all!
The bad dad part is there are stretches of two lane with no cross roads or driveways and straight as an arrow for miles so for the first time in his life I let him touch 100 MPH for a couple of seconds before bringing him back to 55. I also let him brake torque it and smoke the hides. I kept the boost at 13-14 lbs so he would not break the tires loose unexpectidly
He's hooked!
He's been driving fast (60+ mph) go karts for a couple of years and is only a tenth or two behind me in lap times so I wasn't worried about his control of the "T". The boy can drive!
