Best drag radial and size?

I'm thinking Micky Thompson ET Street. I have Kirban's gnx look a like wheels in 16". Do I want 275X50X16 or 255X50X16? I think they come in both sizes. Or can somebody recommend something else?

Personally.....

I prefer the taller tire for traction as well as appearance. Have you checked out the other posts, there seems to have been a number of discussions on this subject. I have the cargo springs which affords me plenty of clearance.:biggrin:

Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels

I did some reading. Seems at least one person said if you get caught in the rain you could be in trouble. Another said Nitto's are better in the rain, but I'm not sure if they are better at the track.
Then I read where TurboDave said 16" tires are worse than 15" tires for 60' times. However, it appeared he was comparing 16" ET Streets with 15" slicks. Then 19TTA89 said he runs 255/50/16 MT Drag Radials and cuts 60' times in the 1.51 - 1.53 sec. range all night long.
Any other opinions? I really don't want to change tires at the track. But I don't want to spin out in case it starts to drizzle, either. And I want the tires to last for 30,000 miles. Ok, that last one was a joke. :smile:

The Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials are much better at the track then the Nittos (stickier and more consistent). The trade off is that the Mickeys are very soft and won't last as long as the Nittos on the street. The Nittos are good in the rain at moderate speeds, however the Mickeys will be ok in rain at low speeds if you aren't driving far. If you will have to drive your car for decent mileage every week and will be caught in the rain often, I wouldn't recommend the Mickeys.

Ideally, you would have longer mileage drag radials such as Nittos or BFGs for everyday driving and a set of Mickeys on a spare set of rims that you could put on in your driveway and drive to the track on. If you don't do much daily driving, the Mickeys are the best. The 16" 255/60 Mickeys are fine at the track.

I just bought a set of the ET Streets. Since I live an hour from the track, I'll be changing them at the track.

MT ET street radials work. I have bought a set of Hoosiers drag radials to compare Hoosier Racing Tire - Tires Designed For Champions anyone tried the Hoosiers ?

I have the 275/55R16 M&H Racemaster tires on my GTA fronts...They hook & fill my wheel wells nice...There are a couple threads on them...

M&H 275/55/16 Drag Radial, close to 28" tall, great tire for the GNX look a like rims.

NO burnout on the street, 28# in tire, 4# launch = ZERO wheel spin. 6# launch may have spun twice. That was as much as I tested them, as my tranny decided to start acting up . New Tranny should be here in less than a month, will post 60' times leaving off T-brake

I have 255\50\16's on my 16" Weld weels. Back spacing is a bit of an issue for me. They sometimes rub the frame if I go a around a tight corner. Other than that they work good at the track. My 60' is not the greatest but I have other issues, no fault of the tires.
