I bought my dual 3" stainless steel cat-back system from GN1Performance and the fit is very good. I also have a 4" downpipe custom made by Brian Cotton from the turbo all the way under the car which connects to the GN1 system, This downpipe + dual 3" system makes it a very low-restriction system.

So Zascar posted pics of blackmonte's ride, which has Cotton's SS dual 2.5 with Magnaflows, correct if that's not right. Love to see pics of RJC or other single shot and any others fitting in this thread you got sitting in your garages!
thanks again guys and keep it up:)

RJC.....stick with american made things for these turbo buicks youll tend to notice that the chines made items are just that a bunch of CRAP:eek:

:confused:Well it's time to replace the old mild steel cat back that has served me well since 1988, but it's so quiet and the muffs are pretty banged up. I searched but couldn't find a good discussion including fit, sound, 2.5" vs 3.0" and value for price.
I KNOW you guys have opinions on this. I'm looking for a great value, dual no single shot, that sounds good, fits well, doesn't drone. I figure all the good ones must have pretty comprable performance. I'll be stuck with this for a long time so it's gotta sound sweet and fit well/install easily. I don't think I need 3 inch, but if it's the best overall value out there and it fits that's ok. I saw one from modern muscle. OK lemme have it!
thanks for the opinions!:D

if you got 21 years out of your exhaust system i would go buy another one from that same company! seems like money well spent:D

hello; Joed to see a pic. of the RJC system go to there site. All your going to see are two tail pipes. Almost like GM made it.

Or look at ours and see how GM did the GNx:eek:, Really it does'nt hang down low at all I am just not happy with the sound of the Magnaflows other than that its all in what YOU like . RJC, Pypes, Cotton's Hooker, ATR, they are all good and its nice to still be able to choose between several exhuasts.Mine fit great and I only used jack stands to put it on and fit great .I myself like the new 4'' single shot RJC is coming out with.

It'd last another 20 years too, it's just a heavy gage steel 2.5" mandrel bent cat back with I-dunno muffs. I only drive 1000 mi per year, they don't even get wet!

Well put. I'm just trying to avoid hassles of bad fit :mad:or drone :(that make you hate an exhaust mostly. Want more sound, but no drone!
Sell me your Cottons System then?:D

A buddy of mine just did the GN1 Performance exhaust. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the quality, look, and sound. Mark at TR sells the same one if you have something against Archie. Nice piece.

That's just the kind of feedback I'm looking for here. The GN1 is a little pricey tho. I don't know who Archie is. I like the look, price (saw pics and video on his site) and all of RJC's 3" dual but I'm seeing just too much talk and complaints about getting it to fit and support. Should either end up with Cottons or GN1, depending on the deal:wink:
thanks to everyone for posting. Feel free to keep adding stainless catback pics and opinions! And I'll be sure to report my choice and results once the deal is found!
Thanks again.

hello ladies and gentleman; As far as the GNX exhaust that's a whole new ball game. Does the suspension components look like a regular turbo regal? I don't think so a dual system is a nice deal.
We got to realize this is a 6 cylinder with a turbo. So I think the best exhaust S/S, alum. or what have you would be from the cat. to a muff that would fit up nice and tight and go straight out. In front of the wheel or out behind it. I hav'nt heard one or seen one live but I will in the near future.
I think the RJC is for me as GM made it for our cars.
Remember this is a 6 cylinder engine and not a V8 wantabe as some of those systems look like.
This is my opinion as I said before as with A holes everyone has one.

I had PM'd a few people who have this exhaust before I purchased mine, and everyone had nothing but good things to say about it. I think exhaust in general is a PIA.
People have problems with downpipes not fitting too. There is just too many variables with body bushings, suspension, etc that are different from car to car to make an exhaust fit or not fit a car. It's completely different than something like a turbo or intake that will fit just about every car the same.

We sell this one. STAINLESS CATBACK EXHAUST I installed one on my own GN replacing the Hooker with Aerochamber muffs I had on it. Actually a bit lighter than the Hooker setup, no drone and sounds nice.

Installed it on my back in my garage, would be a lot easier with a lift. My car is lowered quite a bit and had to trim a couple of the pipes to gain clearance going up and over the rear axle.

I suggest using stepped band clamps at all connections instead of the supplied clamps, that way the system can be easily disconnected if the need arises and makes it easy to change positions of the pipes as you install them. I have it supported with 6 hangers total. One in back of each muffler, the welded tab on the rear axle pipe to the factory hanger and then an additional one on the tailpipe. I am NOT using the factory cat hanger and have a band clamp at the dump pipe connection to the down pipe.

If you eliminate the cat hanger you will have to shim up the difference on the trans mount to keep your driveshaft angle the same. I used one of the HR trans mounts we sell as that has a shim included with it. Have not had any issues with eliminating the cat hanger. With the hanger setup I mentioned earlier the system pretty much supports itself, not a lot of pressure on the downpipe.

Heres some pictures of this system installed on my GN. Using rear Mustang springs for additional clearance vs the big GM rear springs. F-body springs are basically the same. Seems to tuck up pretty good to me! I did need to clearance the floor board just a tad near the driveshaft tunnel at one point. Pretty much any systems location is dictated by where your downpipe ends up with either a car or test tube/dump.

More pics. BTW, muffler clamps after the mufflers are for support only. Stepped band clamps were used at all connections. Only way to go. Only regular clamps are included with this system but I recommend the band clamps.

Its good everyone is talking about going bigger! for me the question would be if
ANY VENDOR out there sells a dual 3" MUFFLER back tailpipe kit. I have everything
else just need those stock exiting tailpipes!

Mark those sure are pretty pipes, think we could work something out?
Just the tailpipes is all I need, no clamps, rubber hangers, just the pipe.

Thanks
M.

Sorry, pretty pipes only come in a package deal.

I guess I am not that cute huh? I tried, to Canada my money goes unless ANY vendor on this board can do me up a set, even if it's from a china kit I don't care. 8187-GN3-TP 189.95 for dual 3" aluminized tailpipes from muffler tech thats pretty good! 309.95 for 409 S.S. material, not bad considering its in canadian dollars! Still would love to do it through a vendor even if I have to pay more. OR anyone wanting a dual 3" exhaust want to split the cost? You take the y and mufflers and have a turn down dual 3". And I take just the tailpipes?

thanks for the responses and interest, I hope to be able to make a decision soon.
