Looking for some beta testers of a new type of teflon seal for the check valve assembly on the shurflo pump to replace the viton one inside it.

I have these o-rings on a couple cars already, would like some more feedback before incorporating it full time.

Takes a few minutes to install, hardest part is draining the tank and dropping the pump. Valve is located directly under the pressure switch assembly. So its a 3 screw ordeal to change.

Viton while chemically ok with alcohol, may not be resistant to petroleums(aromatics). The pumps dont have issues with alcohol. This just should make them even better than they already are.

Any takers..contact me off list and i'll send you an o-ring. I have 25 to experiment with :D.

If you got a pump from me.. N/C on the seal. Tho would like the cars to currently be up and running. So the part can be tested.

Hotrodding.. the constant tweaking to make things better. :D

Hell yes! I've been fighting leaks for a LONG time.

Dont know how this may impact pressure on your DIY kit.

Leaks, replace the seal, tighten screws, and install gasket.

Red Loc-tite works wonders on screws.

Would this have anything to do with the top leaking on the Shurflo??

I've only had my setup (DIY) for 2 1/2 months and it's leaking like mad on the side with two screws in the top. :(

I dont know why the DIY guys are having so much problems with leaks.

The issue may have been the pumps that go through northern tool. I ordered some pumps last year and they didnt package them at all. Just tossed them in the box. A local guy here decided to order a pump and it arrived with the pressure switch cracked.

To answer the question, underneath the pressure switch is a teflon disc. Thats what stops the leaks from occuring. There is a teflon gasket that can be placed between the switch and pump body. but thats a totally different thing. And doesnt come with the pumps when you purchase them.

Typically, the screws on top of the pump can loosen with vibration. A simple twist of a phillips screwdriver solves that. Note the previous comment red loc-tite is your best friend.

I stock the seal kits. Havent sold one yet... but theyre in stock.

Yeah, mine was from Northern Tool. :(

I just tightened it up and it lasted 3 days.

I'll take it apart and let everyone know what I found.

I had called Shurflo some time ago and the engineer said that when you run the pumps on a small orfice at higher pressures it cuases the pressure switch to chatter. Which means the santoprene disc seal under the switch can tear from repeated flexing. At lower pressures its not a problem.

If you have a torn seal, reduce pressure and increase nozzle sizing.

Guess this may be a reason why I havent had problems since increasing pressure on the pumps , and not letting it hit the switch.. it doesnt need to flex. So reducing voltage to the pump seems to be an almost fool proof way.

Seal kits will be shipping this week guys..

Some extra suprises will be included.. shhh..

:D
