Board Change

I use to run a board and I know it isn't easy. However you guys can't come on here and act like this and then turn around and moderate. You lose credibility. I know you probably know this and let your emotions get you like the rest of us sometimes, but you have to try harder. I'd say a vast majority of the posters don't come here for that.

I know one thing you might want to think about is something they try at 1965-1973 Classic Mustangs - Vintage Mustang.com Users can donate money to the board and get a bronze, silver, or gold status next to their name and receive special posting privileges such as embedded Youtube links etc.

Taking money from users is something I seriously doubt we ever do here.

I'm running Firefox and can probably block any ads I don't care to see if somehow this were to become an issue for me. But I really don't mind ads. To be perfectly honest, a scrolling ad for Boze Alloys came up in my line of view here one day and four weeks later, I had a set of new wheels. So I am not anti-ad.


As far as the other stuff on Page 1, I really haven't ever noticed Otto post before. But I am going to guess there is a "history" between him & Jay C. I was not the least bit offended by the banter between the two of them personally. In fact, sometimes some e-drama and d!ck measuring can be funny. And at least the person with "the power" didn't toss out any disciplinary action considering both parties were getting in some equally strong jabs. That said, I do agree... It is rather hard to moderate and punish others for flaming in the slightest bit after reading that little tirade.

Jay & Shane, people are going to b!tch about something. But don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff. You guys get the un-dieing pleasure of seeing every complaint being in the positions of owner & admin. It's just part of the gig. Your mods get it, too. Best bet is to try and see as much of it as possible to be constructive (albeit sometimes abrasive) criticism and let it roll.

That never ends. It's why I don't moderate a board anymore. BTW, I said donate, not take. Big difference.

When posting a new message it takes quite a while before it posts. No big deal tho really. Little annoying that's all.

The problem with doing something like that is that the pages arent dynamic, unless the guy is a vBulletin coder.. You can have a really nice flashy homepage but then when you want to update it, it takes a bunch of editing to make it happen.

Most forums use VBAdvanced. I like VBA, its a good, solid portal. Its what we use on T6P. Its what all the forums that the company I work part time for use. I wanted something different for here tho. The portal we ended up using here, Ive never seen anyone use anywhere else. The author was very helpful in helping me get it set up like we wanted and Im happy with it.

A flashy homepage would have been cool but it's just so much of a PITA to setup and maintain.

I dont understand what editing because you have the forum feeder on there is what would make editing a pain and only that...Or if you had some flash on there with multiple storys on cars that keeps changing, such as example below (photoshop'd design 15 mins of time) then yes you would have to keep up on it. but those 4 storys, I havent seen change in a couple years, So even if the Flash is set up with scrolling pics with some action script to pull up a story...big whoop..onces its done its done

All you really need is a friggun JPG with the links bar to bring you in... I can see why The portal you ended up using here, you have never seen anyone use anywhere else. prolly cause they wouldnt. heck the old one looked better. To me the forum feeder is just a waste of time.....

If visitors are new...let em come into the main portal, see a killer image and brief write up of the history and the members then follow link to the forums, And once they hit the forums they will save that link and use it insted of the maingate from there on out making the forum feeder a waste that no one will ever use.

While on that subject, When I stop in I make my rounds to each section weather or not there is or has been a feeder section for NEW posts only, I stop in, look around and go

and I aint bitchn,...could care less if you changed the colors to purple and lime green I dont come in here through the main gate anyway but the front door would look alot more inviting if it had the whip azz graphic laid out.
