Buying a spare engine questions

was thinking about getting a spare engine and wondered what i should be looking for?

try and find a stock turbo motor, or just start ordering the new aluminum block, heads and assorted parts?

stock motor freshened up would be fine, but a nice aluminum one would be good too...

also, not sure about the 3.8 vs 4.1 blocks..

Here are some choices:

1. Known good used engine - $3000

2. 3.8 fresh 109 block/engine - $5500

3. 4.1 forged, 600 HP engine - $8900

4. Complete alum build 1000 HP engine - $16,000

If it's a proven 100K + engine you can hear run and drive, pay an OK amount for..


if it's an engine ''that runs fine'' on a pallet, pay less...


if it's a "fresh rebuild" with only 0/50/100 miles, don't pay shit for it. Treat it like a core that needs building.
