I have a TE45A right now, and it spools pretty fast with my PI 3200 lock up convertor. Will I need to loosen the convertor to spool a 70? I don't want to, thats why I ask. I'd like to step up, but stay streetable.

Hey Sam,how have you been..:) If my car was back together I would tell you ,,but my convertor is a 4200:eek: ,so I think I can spool it with that,,but I mayb e installing the 3600 Pats that been sitting in a box for a few months..is this something you will be doing soon,,I figure in a month I should have the car back together...
Dennis:)

uuummmm.......local GTQ car (D!ck) uses a 4K stall (TH400) and Dawes bleeder set at 20 lbs....seems to work ok

don't think you will be real happy with the converter you got now.....there is a bit of difference between a "normal" 70 and the GTQ

(if you can even get one, I'd be surprised.....)

Maybe not a GTQ, as in q trim, but a regular 70 with a p trim?

Hey Dennis, hows it going? I'm just waiting for spring, kinda sucks being cooped up for winter. I'm just exploring future upgrades, not doing anything soon. Gotta wait for her to get her new job! Then I'll have more expendible income. I'm kinda leaning towards building another car, maybe an LS1 car. Tired of dealing with the headaches of the buick stuff. It seems like 90% of the vendors and mechanics out there suck, and its only getting worse. Plus I wanna go faster, and its just too expensive with the buick stuff. I've been checking out Quartermile performances turbo LS1 project, looks killer! Oh well, I'm rambling, take care man, try not to work too much!

It is a PT 70 with the new 4" inlet and 3" outlet GT compressor housing. It has the Precision .63 turbine housing with the P-Trim exhaust wheel. It's a 3 bolt

Hey sam

just in case i have a 3600-3800 pi lock up single disk 0pump im going to get restalled but before i do ill trade you for yours if not cool

Johnny

its a fancy grainger valve....basically, the way most use 'em is to hold the wastegate shut until a certain boost is reached....it does seem to help spoolup....Race Jace did a post on them a while back....web site is dawesdevices.com.....

it is advertised as a boost controller, but the better use is to just hold the wastegate shut until you wanna launch..

I run a Vigilante multi-disc #6 pump. Streetability is just fine. Make sure your brakes are up to snuff for spooling at the track.

surej,

What trim are you running? P or Q? Just got my GTQ 70 with an 85 Q trim housing - it will be interesting to see how much stall I will need. Was running a 64E with a 3200 N/L - vigilante.

Thanks in advance

azan,

The exhaust housings were on backorder - I think you will be seeing a lot of these turbos being shipped.

I have a LT70 p trim .63 exhuast with a Art Carr 3500 N/L and I can spool it pretty easy. My car has gone the best of 1.46 60ft and does 1.49 to 1.50's all day long with 15-20lbs luanches.

hope that helps

Chris you are the 60' foot man:D

What are the advantages and disadvantages to the GTQ, P, and Q trims? i've been out of the turbo game for a while since the GN hasn't been running for a couple of years. Thanks

You should have a pretty damn fast ride right now. How fast you looking to run.

Ive been trying to find out more info about the GT turbos. It seams they been making them for around 3 years and the buick guys are a little behind. The best I can tell we are behind because of waiting on some one to make a bolt it right in version. Which appears to mainly have to do with the stock style 3 bolt exhaust housings. It seams that as Garrett made these new compressor wheels they also made a bunch of new turbine wheels that are matched to go with them. They also have the new compressor and turbine housings. These turbine housings are 4 bolts and they look to have some crazy a/r ratios. When you get up into the 600 and 700 hp turbo range you wind up with exh a/r ratios of like 1.06 up to like 1.3 some thing. If you do some reading up they are saying that a 1.xx turbine housing on the old style turbos would be a spool up pig. They say these new turbine housing and wheel combos are so different that you kind of have to forget what you've learned so far. They say they spool good even with these crazy a/r ratios. I'm sure Garrett spent a ton of R&D money coming up with good housings for thier new wheels so maybe theres some thing there. I know of one vendor that sells full garrett GT turbos and since they are an off the shelf deal they are priced closer to a TE44 than a traditional big shaft. This vendor also says there is hp in those crazy new Garrett 4 bolt housings. He says the work to install one is no major deal. I want one but he keeps teling me I need ported heads to go fast. :(
