Okay, learned something from this thread. Move the fire extingisher for the trunk to the cab.

quick tip.....at the very first sign of smoke pull the hood latch...for some reason that cable is the first to burn through......fire dept loves using the K-12 on your hood:mad:

sorry about your car!.....I watched my 86 Ski Nautique burn to the ground its a terrible feeling....by the time I got back to it with a extinguisher it was gone!
Silver lining-- was able to buy another 86 in near showroom condition.....hope your as lucky!

I had my 69 Dodge Dart do that with 20 miles on after repaint, a big block transplant, and installing a set of mint 69 GT door panels. Thankfully while I was in basic training (this was back in 88) my dad had it appraised. It was insured for 2 whole weeks. I got a check for 4700 and a couple weeks later another check for the refund on the remaining balance of the 6 months I paid for. I have always had good luck with American Family. Believe me though I cried as I watched my hard work go up in flames. The culprit was the slip yoke on the driveshaft failed, it swung around ripped a hole in the tunnel, cut the tranny lines and started on fire. We were just about to turn into my parents driveway when it happened and were probably down to 20 mph. I've never exited any vehicle so fast. I truly feel your pain. As a word of caution to all you hot air guys, because our cars retain so much heat right on top of the engine I urge all of you to carry a fire extinguisher inside the car somewhere easily snatched upon a hasty exit.

My collector car insurance company recommended a fire extingwisher. It is in the back seat always. They are inexpensive. Get one. Brad

Hi Chris,

I sold you the ATR up-pipe and headers if i recall correctly...where they on the car when it up?! :frown: I wonder if they are still good if they were...

Good luck on finding a new toy...

Nate

fire extinguisher

I've place a halon fire extinguisher in the cabin on both of my TRs.:frown:

Dude that sux..as the name suggests I am a firefighter, seen many car burn to the ground they go quick. My suggestion to everyone, buy an extinguisher, make it halon, the cheap little dry chem from walmat is full of corrosive powder, that translates into a motor rebuild if you shot it off and you will NEVER get rid of that damn powder.

Thanks for the info. Halon it is

Are you selling the rear seat braces? If so then I am interested in obtaining them.

Looking at the pics, just a guess, but fire started under the dash? looks like it to me but I have been wrong before. Tough to tell sometime when they get that roastie

I talked to my cousin tonight, who rebuilds fire extinguishers for a living, and he is going to get me an older 2.5 pounder that I can sandblast and powdercoat in a cool scheme or something. He will then pressure test it and fill it with halitron for me (he says you can't get halon here anymore). I don't want that happening to me. Sucks to hear that it happened to anybody.

i'm a firefighter myself. i have been int he fire service for 10 yrs now. I will agree that it looks like the fire started in the pass compartment due to the blistered paint on the doors as far down as it has damage. The front end looks to be intact and not very much heat damage to the nose.

you trade fire patches fyrlt67.

i know this is a little old but i just wanted to also chime in.. very sorry to hear... i have carried an auto fire extinguisher in my car almost since day one because of stories like this.. very paranoid to end up on the side of the highway or somewhere that water is not around and just have to watch my car burn to the ground..

good luck with your sales
