As some of you already know I had some car trouble at the TB.com Nationals where my car felt like it was running on 5 cylinders and after changing plugs and wires it was still doing the same thing then Nick Macale said for the heck of it try to putting my old chip back in the car and walla it worked....Well forward this to last week when I took the car out and got in to start it and there it was again...

So the ONLY thing that I had switched out and had not gone back with yet was the ECU. So I switched that back to my old one and instantly the problem was solved and haven't had that problem since..

I just wanted to post this to let everyone know that your ECU can be the culprit to your car doing wacky things so next time it seems like it's a coil pack or module don't pass up the ECU as the possible problem..

I had bought this ECU from a Buick member that was at Reynolds, guess now I know why it was so cheap! In the trash it went.............

Goddamnit Scott! Sometimes when the circuit boards get hot the can flex and cause a problem. Did this problem happen when the car was hot? Glad you got it fixed

I had a modded ecm think it was at the rev limiter at idle once it was up to temp. The rpms on the scanmaster said 6375. The same ecm in my brothers car with high impedance injectors worked fine. Weird stuff.

Send it to Caspers and see if he can fix it Scott. They're only so many out there after all.

Nope! The car was cold and sat in the air conditioned garage for several days before trying to start it.

This issue happened just after JD drove the car in NC and it was warmed up after pulling it off the trailer there. and now when the car was cold so it has no pattern to when it does this.

I finished up a TTA recently that was a drivability nightmare. The ecm was one of three culprits...

Water getting into them is a big issue. Then somebody cleans the terminals with wd40 and sells you a lemon

Exactly, sorry Scot...... off to search parts for sale threads :o

My last ECM had corrosion on the pins. It would do weird intermittent things until I put in a new one from NOS4GN...no problems since then!

this is a much bigger problem that most people realize, one big culprit is worn out prom sockets from 20+ years of changing chips. If the ecm works with one chip but not another good chance the socket is just bad in the ecm, I see it all the time

It is definitely something inside the ECM cause the pins checked out fine with No corrosion or bent connection tabs.. The ECM worked fine once we installed my old TT chip back in it, then I recently installed my Trans-Plus and extender chip and it was also fine for awhile then all of a sudden the same problem happened as before so I knew right there is was the ECM that was junk..

Car is running better now than ever before! No more cold idle surge, No more tip in stumble....

I've seen JD break some stuff, lol.

Speaking of which how are the Remanufactured units from Cardone
Funny you should ask, The "Original" one that was in my car when I bought it IS a re-manufactured ECM and the one I bought at Reynolds was an OEM computer.... The Reman ECM is still working like a champ! ;)
