Do you think a Girdle on the block would have helped prevent it cracking like that ?
It probably wouldn't hurt . It looks like the cracking started at the main cap bolt holes and grew from there . The fact that the stock 109 block was being subject to 150+hp/hole pushing a 3800lb car and survived as long as it did is pretty impressive . I'll be putting the car on a diet and dialing back the boost a little and should still get my 9 .

I'm a fan of the engine girdle. Ran the same 109 engine for 14 years with the RJCs girdle. I actually wore the rings out in the engine. Lol. I did watch things like a hawk and addressed any maintenance items immediately. Oil pressure was still great when the engine was pulled this January and it had ALOT of abuse 😎

Ask Husek about the girdle... Definitely more machine work but it's not that bad. Make sure you put the sealing washers in the correct location on the girdle. Learning moment for me!!

Wow sorry to see this for you, you got that killer new Comp turbo and it might've been too killer, literally.

I talked to Champion this week, they're on the home stretch for their iron block, comes machined and it'll be very reasonably priced, almost half of new TA. I'm not eating $11k for a machined aluminum block just to start and save 40lb.

I was gonna go girdle on my spare 109 but by the time I build it these new turbos keep gaining 50hp on the same wheel combo every generation so it's a 109 death row walk even on a 6262, Garrett G35-990 (6262).
